Sparklin Palace is a location on Nova in Magical Starsign. It is where the luminites and the queen of light live, and houses the seven seals which activate the Starway, a dimensional transporter connecting Nova to Shadra.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Egg character[edit | edit source]
If the player has hatched at least one egg character, and not purchased gummy frogs or captured them outside of battle, an exclusive egg character can be obtained by talking to Filamen in the queen's throne room. The character obtained will depend on the protagonist's starsign; if light, it will be Pooka's egg, and if dark, it will be Star's. The egg can be found in Neumann's cabin afterwards, and will hatch with around five tags in Tag Mode.
History[edit | edit source]
Sparklin Palace existed since the Baklava solar system's conception, having been created by the queen of light, the personification of the big bang.[1] In Baklava's creation story, a man named Vermicelli ventured into the sun and arrived on Nova, where he met the queen in Sparklin Palace and joined her in song. However, Vermicelli became overwhelmed and fled to a cave where he hummed the song of the end. Chaos enveloped Baklava, though its people chanted a song of hope to will the planet Kovomaka into existence, which the queen created life for and cast to the far reaches of space.[2]
Throughout time, the queen of light would continually pass away and reincarnate on other planets, adopting new identities and memories in each lifetime.[3] Her luminites were tasked with upholding the palace's rules until her eventual return.[4] After several cycles of reincarnation, the queen eventually forgot that she had ever made the Baklava system, though the luminites feared that reminding her would spur the end of the world.[5]
Several hundred million years later, an orbiting neutron star called Shadra experienced a peak in energy, which formed a sun around it prior to merging with Nova's sun. The two suns overlapped the same physical space across two dimensions, and as a result their merge, the Starway, Glissini Caves, and Phunnel Pit were spontaneously formed. Glissini Caves originally bore a rift that connected the twin planets, until it was sealed by the collision of plasma and matter. The Starway, which laid beneath Sparklin Palace in a dimensional gap, served to bridge Nova and Shadra's spaces by harnessing planetary energy, but the queen of light decreed that nobody could enter it without her personal blessing.
Magical Starsign[edit | edit source]
After the astro pirates destroyed the transporter to Shadra inside Phunnel Pit, Grenadine suggested the students meet with the queen in Sparklin Palace and ask for help. The guarding luminites forbade them from entering, but a team of dwarves arrived with King Gorgonzola and his spiny moles. With the help of his diggy claws, Gorgonzola dug the King's Road, granting the students access to the palace's interior. Once they reached the queen's chambers, they were met by Filamen, who stood next to an empty throne. Filamen stated the queen died one thousand years ago[a] and that she was undergoing another cycle of reincarnation, relaying her order that people from other planets could not use the Starway to reach Shadra. However, the queen also wished for visitors to be given her blessing, to which Filamen granted the students full access to the palace.
Outside the throne room, the students ran into Durum, Farina, and Apitos. While Pico and Lassi expressed resentment towards Durum, given his actions leading up to the tragedy in the Holy Tree Yggsalad, Gamelan told him that the final battle was drawing near. He blamed himself for the death of Semolina, in which she sacrificed herself to become the wood gummy, and hoped that he and Farina could support the students on the last stretch of their journey.
They made their way down to the palace's basement, unleashing their magic to break the Starway's seals. With each seal they broke, they saw visions of Kale talking to Sorbet, Parfait, Madeleine, Suspiro, Biscotti, and Rogan Josh about his plans to nurture Shadra and prematurely destroy the universe. The protagonist entered a magical archway that transformed them into a putty, swapping their starsign in order to break the final seal. While their classmates were distracted, Caldarroste snuck behind Mokka and clipped one of his wires. Pico and Chai were too late to catch him, but Sorbet used Semolina's hairpin to bridge the damaged circuit and reactivate Mokka. Once all the seals were broken, the five planets of Baklava aligned themselves with the sun, activating the Starway and opening the dimensional gate to Shadra.

- ↑ In the English localization, this was changed to the queen of light dying one hundred years ago.

- ↑ Fondue: "This is Sparklin Palace. The Baklava system was created in the big bang. And this was the center of the big bang."
- ↑ Heliotrope: "The sixth planet, the planet of hope, was hidden beyond the dark skies to protect it from the other five clashing planets. The queen of light created life with the sixth planet.""
- ↑ Fondue: "The queen of this planet is continuously reborn on different planets, each time with a new name. I guess that's why they just call her "the queen.""
- ↑ Filamen: "… In a sense. She is no longer with us. Every departure from this world is a rebirth elsewhere, perhaps on another planet. She returns only in the intervals between lifetimes. At those times, we must follow the customs exactly as they have been handed down to us."
- ↑ Fondue: "They say that the queen of the light planet created the world. But after several reincarnations, she completely forgot she'd done it. If anything should ever remind her, then she will begin to sing the song that ends the world."
