"Cool and sometimes a little aloof, Sorbet uses her water magic to show off her sparkling intelligence."

Sorbet, known as Sugar Ronsard[a] in Japan, is a party member attending Will-o'-Wisp Academy in Magical Starsign, and specializes in the element of water.

Party member[edit | edit source]

Sorbet is first present as a member of the party during the tutorial sequence at Will-o'-Wisp Academy. She is later recruited as a permanent party member on Razen. Her initial level is 21.

Her affinity is water, and she receives her aura when Cassia is in alignment. For spells, Sorbet relies on high damage with random distribution, and can also nullify magic attacks.[1]

Profile[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

As cheery as Sorbet seems, she is rarely ever satisfied with her achievements and pushes to be a better version of herself, implying that she possibly suffers from a inferiority complex. When changing her name, Sorbet is described as honest and earnest, and that she cannot be shaken from her beliefs.[1]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Sorbet is a teenage girl with pale skin, violet eyes,[b] and curly light brown hair that goes down to her shoulders. She wears a red, blue, and white headband with a geometric pattern on her head, and a coordinated short blue dress, blue gloves, and blue boots with a lighter colored stripe down the middle. The shoulders, ends of the dress, and the tops of the boots all have white ruffles adorning them.[1]

Magical Starsign[edit | edit source]

The students eavesdropping on Biscotti and Madeleine's conversation.

After hearing that Miss Madeleine was ordered to fly to Puffoon, where she would confront a rogue magician named Kale, Sorbet and her classmates expressed worry for their teacher. The six students were then summoned to the academy's meditation room, where Madeleine taught them the basics of magical combat. However, Sorbet noted that Madeleine did not seem like her usual self. Once the lesson concluded, Sorbet was under the impression that the group would be going into space too, though Madeleine assured them that no such thing would be happening.

Three months later, the students grew worried, as Madeleine had not contacted Kovomaka at all since her departure. When Pico and Chai took notice of Lassi's sudden absence, Sorbet reminded her friends that rockets were rumored to be stowed somewhere in the academy, suggesting Lassi planned on using one to fly to Puffoon herself. Sorbet accompanied Mokka and the protagonist to a rocket hangar in the academy's clocktower, where Lassi, aboard one of the rockets, launched into space. The five other students immediately boarded the remaining rockets, scattering them throughout the Baklava solar system.

When the protagonist, Lassi, and Mokka (and Chai if Puffoon was visited beforehand) reunited with Pico on Gren, he warned the them that Sorbet may have been taken by the astro pirates. They had landed on the wood planet together after Lassi left the academy, but Sorbet was probably taken due to being a magician. The group traveled north to Port Assam where confrontation broke out between Pico, Sorbet, and the pirate otters lead by Lord Persimmon. Several pirate otters dogpiled on top of Sorbet, only to be blown away by a surge of her water magic. Impressed by her talents, Persimmon began sailing off to the fire planet Razen with Semolina, disguised as Farina, on board. Before his ship left Assam's dock, Sorbet hesitantly leapt on, to the dismay of Pico and the others.

Once the party obtained the aquarino from Cassia, they hastily flew to Razen, where Sorbet was seen conversing with two enigmas. She then passed through a barrier into the potfolk town of Paella, while her classmates followed. They paid a visit with Paella's barrier craftsman Celadon, but after leaving his house, Sorbet snuck by and ran off with Celadon, claiming she could save Madeleine on her own. Baffled by her actions, the party chased Sorbet down the planet's World Seam, soon arriving at Shishkebab Cavern. Celadon in-hand, Sorbet proceeded to the Stone Stage where Master Kale and Master Chard stood before an unconscious Madeleine. She attempted to offer Celadon to the masters, seeing as he was adept in magic, but Kale did not see potfolk as adequate sacrifices. When the students arrived, Sorbet refused Chard's command to fight them, resulting in her getting kicked off the Stone Stage. Kale then activated the stage and warped himself, Madeleine, and Chard, to the dimension inside the sun, which housed the light planet Nova. Luckily, Celadon formed a small dome around the students to keep them safe.

Return for Kovomaka[edit | edit source]

Sorbet working with Brie Pourri.

Sorbet continued to study at Will-o'-Wisp, completing her education with a full scholarship. She later went to Puffoon and applied to the Space Police, where she worked alongside Brie and Knucklestorm to restore the organization's honor.[1]

Knights of the Universe[edit | edit source]

In this continuity, Sorbet worked for the White Hawks Magic Knights, a group of magicians in service of Kovomaka Kingdom. She and five other Will-o'-Wisp students were tasked with finding Vanilla Nighthawk, whose unit went missing after confronting a meteorite dubbed The "Sheep". Arriving at the meteorite's crash site, it fired lasers at Sorbet and her companions, to which Souffle Sherbet fought back by summoning the enigma Kerendu.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Her name in English comes from 'sorbet', a frozen fruit dessert.
  • Her Japanese name comes from 'sugar', soluble carbohydrates primarily used in food.
  • Sorbet is the only party member in Magical Starsign with an official last name, Ronsard, which comes from the 'Pierre de Ronsard' flower.
  • It is possible that Sorbet references Candy Mintblue from the prequel, Magical Vacation.
    • Sorbet and Candy are visually similar in design.
    • Both characters temporarily work alongside the antagonists of their respective games.
    • They are the last classmates to join the main party.
    • Candy's design is based off of an unused character which Shinichi Kameoka had created during the development of Legend of Mana.[3] Sorbet closely resembles this design as well.
