Kovopedia is an open English encyclopedic wiki about the Magical Vacation series by Brownie Brown. Originally launched in 2010 as Magical Wiki on Wikia, now called Fandom, the site eventually became Magical Vacation Wiki in 2020 after having been largely inactive since 2014.
In 2022, administrator Rman41 forked the wiki off of Fandom, believing that it was in the best interest of the community to be independent, much like the many other independent Nintendo-related wikis. He created the name Kovopedia at this time, as well as new site graphics to distinguish it from the Fandom counterpart. In 2023, the wiki joined the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance (NIWA), a group of independent wikis about Nintendo franchises.
History
Magical Wiki was created on July 21, 2010 on the media conglomerate website Wikia, now called Fandom. It was founded by Vlax-dono, currently known as TendraelUmbra,[1] who served as an active administrator until 2014 and continued to make occasional edits thereafter.[3] Magical Wiki operated as a counterpart to Magical Starsign Wiki, which was founded in 2009 by Griffen78,[4] with the aim of documenting information not only on Magical Starsign, but the entire Magical Vacation series.
On August 15, 2011, Vlax-dono promoted Gyyrro, the site's second-most active contributor at the time, to administrator.[5] She promoted Gyyrro again to bureaucrat on April 25, 2012.[5]
On April 9, 2020, Rman41 joined Magical Wiki[6] with a blog post that brought attention to its outdated content, proposing a plan to completely revamp the site to ensure its survival.[7] He ultimately submitted an adoption request for Magical Wiki to Fandom on May 31, citing Vlax-dono's inactivity and the fact that fan-made content was being improperly treated as official material on the site.[8] Fandom staff approved the request the following day, and Rman41 was promoted to Magical Wiki's bureaucrat.[8] Among the first decisions made after this promotion were changing the site's name to Magical Vacation Wiki and redesigning the main page, including the site's logo.[9]
On January 29, 2022, Magicwindsock joined Magical Vacation Wiki to expand content related to Magical Vacation and Uchū no Kishi.[10] Rman41 promoted Magicwindsock to content moderator on September 13, and to administrator on October 23.[11]
On October 31, concerned by Fandom's announcement that it was acquiring numerous entertainment-related brands,[12] Rman41 created a fork of Magical Vacation Wiki on a self-hosted site called Kovopedia.[2] The site's name was coined as a portmanteau of Kovomaka, a recurring location in the series, and encyclopedia. This fork incorporated many original assets, notably a new logo and icons featuring the character Star from Magical Starsign. The wiki's Discord server was also fused with the Magical Vacation / Starsign community server, owned by custard_n_trifle, at the suggestion of Rman41 on November 9.[13]
Kovopedia was officially accepted as a member of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance (NIWA) on March 2, 2023, becoming its 28th member.[14]
On August 14, 2024, Rman41 promoted Sailorsnightmare to administrator,[15] and later promoted Magicwindsock to bureaucrat on December 14, 2025.[16]
