Putties, also known as Traveling Putties, are a species in the Magical Vacation series. They mainly live in Osim Village in the Dark Realm, and Shishkebab Cavern on Razen.
Profile
Putties are bipedal, wobbly, gray masses of konjac with small blue eyes. They are born when putty peas get boiled and mashed, then cooled off in a mold.[1] Their square bodies flop around when they walk, and are said to repel the sharpest of swords, but they can go stale if exposed to sunlight for too long. When they do not have access to water, putties use sheer will to keep themselves hydrated.[2] In Japanese, putties end sentences with でぺたん depetan or ぺたこん petakon, a sound effect for flopping over. Their names are also written in Café au Lait Font.
In Magical Vacation, putties are named after famous philosophers, whereas in Magical Starsign, their names come from various flowers and spices.
History
It is said that long ago, the putties' land was attacked by demons, but their bodies repelled the demons' razor-sharp swords. Unfortunately, Osim Village's putty population would begin to steadily decline. The only remaining putty, Bachelard, took it upon himself to find putty peas throughout the realms of the universe, hoping to shape them into new putties. He encountered the party many times across the Light Realm, but did not find any putty peas. He returned to Osim Village depressed, until he was met by Mace and Cinnamon, who promised to help him repopulate the village. The party also assisted Bachelard, obtaining every putty pea to make Osim Village flourish once more.
Several hundreds of years later, another putty named Cardoon arrived at the Stone Stage in the depths of Shishkebab Cavern on Razen. Finding it a suitable environment for his kin, he tasked the party with gathering putty peas around the Baklava solar system. In doing so, the cavern was eventually filled with newly-made putties, who each sang parts of a song retelling the universe's early history.
Other appearances
A putty appears in the game as a trophy and sticker #630, the latter of which uses their art from Magical Starsign. Like other Magical Vacation series trophies, Magical Vacation is omitted in their appearances.

In the 2009 DSiWare game A Kappa's Trail, developed by Brownie Brown, a putty briefly appears as an easter egg. If the player-controlled kappa is guided to a clam next to their underwater house, they will come out looking like a putty.
Nomenclature
