After Lassi cleared out the fog on Lover's Cove with her wind magic, Caldarroste was seen witnessing and backing away without the party's notice.
The party first encountered Caldarroste in Port Pescato after reuniting with Mokka. He stopped them and asked if they are magicians, pushing Lassi to ask why he wanted to know. Caldarroste insisted he's on their side, but Lassi still find him suspicious, whispering to the protagonist to ignore him. Caldarroste then revealed to them how the pirates were behind the planet's bitter climate. Lassi asked why the pirates would do such thing, and Caldarroste claimed he wished he knew, but added how the locals would be grateful if the party got rid of them. He then disclosed the location of the pirates' hideout, which was in Dragon God Cave.
After the party defeated Chard, Keelhaulin' Kurt asked him who the party was. Chard revealed how Caldarroste had sent them to him as a gift, much to Lassi's surprise. Caldarroste then ran into the area and to Chard's side, eagerly asking him if he liked the presents. Chard acknowledged the party was powerful beyond their years. Pleased by Chard's response, Caldarroste asked if he could become a pirate. However, Chard fell to his knees from pain before he could answer. Completely dismissing Caldarroste's question, Chard ordered the pirates to leave the area and freeze it solid. Desperate, Caldarroste begged for an answer. Keelhaulin' Kurt told him to not get too confident, and Dumpy Dave told him how pirates are all violent, and how people like him are unfit to be one before laughing at him.
