"Surely you can see the world's descent into darkness? And that darkness will take the world, mark my words…buk… The end will come not at my hands nor at the hands of Master Kale… The end comes because of an idiot king and his foolish subjects."
―Fowler

Biek Fowler is a boss character in Magical Starsign. He is the Space Police's top martial arts advisor and a former student of Macadameus.

Profile

Fowler acts from experience, keeping himself of proper composure during the more tense confrontations, but also has a violent disposition. He is very faithful to his superiors, taking the most extreme of measures to fulfill their tasks. Alongside this, he is confident in his abilities and straightforward to his adversaries. In Japanese, he laughs in a way that resembles shushing (シシシシシ shishishishishi), which was changed to clucking in the English localization.

He resembles a European white rooster by the means that he is a full white color with long, hanging feathers and a large crest. His hands and feet are similar to the talons of a hawk, his hands having three digits each, his feet having four. He wears a dark green robe that resembles a paofu, and pants of the same color underneath. He has a gray shell pack attached to his backside.

Boss

Fowler has the dark starsign, gaining his aura when Shadra emerges at night. He is more dependent on physical attributes than magic, since his power and agility are both very high. He also tends to use two attacks in a single turn.

Fowler can cast the spells shadow die, which damages a single party member, and dazzle darts, which strikes all party members; both of these spells have the potential to inflict curse. He also has the neutral spell celestial swap, allowing him to manipulate the alignment of planets to his advantage.

He has the physical skill lotus barrage, which has a 25% chance to instantly reduce a party member's hit points to 0, bypassing protection spells such as prism barrier and parsley wall, as well as reflex guards. He uses the regular physical skill rising palm to similarly strike a single member.[1]

Biography

Early life

Fowler was known to have graduated from Ambergris Preparatory School on Cassia,[2] and later trained under the guidance of Macadameus, whom he eventually surpassed. His dubious fighting techniques proved useful after becoming the Space Police's top martial arts advisor, and eventually joined Kale, a politically-inclined magician and King Suspiro's former right-hand man, in his grand scheme to prematurely destroy the universe. Fowler devoted himself to Kale's nihilistic ideologies, recognizing that Suspiro and the Baklava system's people were too incompetent to keep the world alive until the apocalypse. With the Space Police secretly working alongside Chard's astro pirates, Fowler apprehended several magicians and delivered them to Shishkebab Cavern on Razen.

Magical Starsign

As Miss Madeleine journeyed across Puffoon in order to stop Kale, she followed him though Couscous Ruins and crossed paths with Fowler and a unit of SP officers. Fowler declared that Madeleine was really a pawn in Kale's scheme, confident that her admirers would foolishly come to her rescue. Refusing to back down, Madeleine unleashed her magic and warped the accompanying officers away. Fowler applauded the sorceress, expecting as much from Kale's mentor on Kovomaka. Unfortunately, Fowler managed to gain the upper hand against Madeleine and arrest her, after which she was transferred to Razen and held captive by the astro pirates.

Around three months later, Madeleine's students embarked on a journey across outer space to save her. The protagonist, Lassi, Mokka, and Chai (and Pico if Gren was visited beforehand) gathered in Honey Mint on Puffoon, as Chai acquired secret Space Police documents. Upon reading the stolen paperwork, the students found out that it was actually a list of abducted magicians, one of whom was Madeleine with Fowler cited as the arresting officer. After reuniting with Sorbet, the students ventured through Couscous Ruins in search of the wind gummy, encountering a mirage that replayed Fowler's previous confrontation with Madeleine.

Later on, as the students defended Paella by fighting off the Space Police's cybersaurus, they planned on returning to Condimen Tower in hopes of boarding an upgraded Neumann. However, Detective Beignet warned them not to leave the town yet, upon which Fowler arrived and called him a traitor to the force. He tucked himself into his glider as it charged with electricity, but before he could launch himself at the students, Beignet jumped in and took the blow. While Beignet laid wounded on the ground, Brie Pourri swiftly flew into the village, forced Fowler back with her sword, then used her wind magic to send the group up to Condimen Tower's entrance. Fowler coldly laughed at Brie, who finally revealed herself to be a traitor as well. Amidst the chaos, Fowler seized an etherealization machine from the dwarves and used it to escape, following the students as they blasted off into the sun.

Fowler intercepted the students yet again, this time at the Starway beneath Sparklin Palace. He blocked the entrance to the interdimensional chamber, also unveiling his possession of the etherealization device. The students fought him and won, allowing them to meet Grenadine inside the Starway where he tried activating the warping platform. Just as the students were about to be sent to Shadra, Fowler showed up and threatened to end their journey by casting them all into the dimensional abyss.[a] He proclaimed his loyalty to Kale's goal of destroying the Baklava system, until he was unexpectedly struck by Farina's magic. Durum, Farina, and Apitos rushed into the chamber while Grenadine continued to hastily repair the platform. Their good-bye was disrupted when Mokka detected a dimensional bomb within Fowler's glider, so to save the students, Durum picked it up and hurried outside. The students were powerless to do anything, as once they heard the bomb detonate in the distance, they were immediately warped into Shadra's dimension. To their relief, they found Durum alive after returning from the dark planet.

Trivia

  • In the Japanese version of the game, Fowler has one voice line that was removed overseas. It is "Not like this!" (これは違うKore wa chigau), which he says when defeated.
  • His line, "Hah hah! I see that you are indeed your teacher's student." is a mistranslation of, "★ほう…… さすがはあの男の 師と言うだけはある……" ("★Hoh… I'd expect as much from his mentor, just like he said…"), alluding to Kale telling Fowler about Miss Madeleine's power.
  • Fowler is the only enemy fought at the Starway.
  • Alongside Chard, he is one of the only villains who dies by his own hand.

Nomenclature

His name comes from fowl, birds eaten by humans, otherwise referred to as poultry.

Notes

  1. In Japanese, Fowler states he will drive the students into the dimensional gap that divides Nova and Shadra. In the English localization, he compares himself to a rope, exclaiming he will metaphorically hang them.
