Abalon Demar, known in Japan as Nibe Keja, is a boss character in Magical Starsign. He is the chief commissioner of the Bena Rikashi Space Police, and the older brother of Gil Mudflap.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Abalon is a very aloof person who is fairly conceited, taking great pride in his looks and fragrances. His self-image is so inflated that he belittles everyone around him, including his foul-smelling brother whom he calls "sludgeface".[1]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Abalon Demar is said to be a very charming man capable of attracting anyone. He is shown standing inside of an open scallop, wearing large baggy blue paints and an orange frilly tutu-like garment. He has an overly large pearl necklace and curled green prehensile hair. He has odd horns coming out of his head, most likely to be coral, and pale gray skin. He seems to be wearing makeup as well.[1]

Boss[edit | edit source]

Demar has water affinity, gaining an aura when Cassia is in alignment. He can use the spell forested field to deal damage to up to four members of the party, potentially causing them to be afflicted with cold; his spell ice fromage does the same, but to all party members, and is rarely used. He can also use celestial swap to change the alignment of planets to his advantage. Demar has the special physical skill sweet nothings, which strikes a single member and causes them to have charm, preventing them from attacking him; this status effect cannot be removed by the party. His skill hello, good-bye removes this effect from the party member while lowering their hit points to 1 and transferring the effect to another member.[1][2]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Abalon Demar was introduced shortly after the party infiltrated Shishkebab Cavern, in which they defeated Gil Mudflap and rescued several captive magicians. Hearing word of his brother's defeat, Demar ordered that Magnus Muzzleflash, a former SP solider imprisoned for war crimes, be reinstated into the force. Mudflap entered Demar's office and warned him of Muzzleflash's psychopathic habits, though Demar feared Biek Fowler would have both of them terminated if the students were not dealt with.[a] Thus, he ordered Mudflap to await his orders on Cassia, while Muzzleflash would be deployed to Erd.

Commencing their plan, a unit of SP officers lead by Demar were sent to Cassia, aiming to claim the water millennium gummy from Holy Water Pyramid. They flew a spaceship overtop the pyramid and enveloped it in a column of energy, proceeding to blockade the area and tell locals they were protecting the millennium gummy. In reality, they sieged Holy Water Pyramid and massacred the resident water people. The party and Parfait managed to break through the police's defenses and destroy their ship, catching up to Demar and Mudflap in the water gummy's chamber. Mudflap offered to fight them again, but Demar sliced his brother's glider in two, inviting the students to fight him outside instead. He ultimately lost, urging the occupant SP officers to abandon their mission and flee the pyramid.

Later on, the students ventured to Gren at Detective Beignet's behest, quickly finding Demar looking out to Carbonara Jungle engulfed in flames. He told them Gren lacked a wood millennium gummy, as it was supposedly absorbed by the Holy Tree Yggsalad, so he believed the planet would soon be incinerated alongside the gummy. With that, Demar bid the students farewell and flew away in his glider.[1]

  • In the Japanese version of the game, Demar has three voice lines that were removed overseas. These are "I'll take it from here!" (受け止めてあげよう Uketomete ageyō) at the start of battle, "It's you~!" (君だ Kimi da) when using sweet nothings, and "No way!" (そんな Son'na) when defeated.
  • Demar is seen wielding a rapier in Holy Water Pyramid, but does not use it in battle.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. In Japanese, Demar states that Fowler would have him and Mudflap fired from the Space Police; in the English localization, he says they would be in for a "terrible slapping."
