- ―Mudflap
Gil Mudflap is a boss character in Magical Starsign. He is the superintendent of the Bena Rikashi Space Police, and the younger brother of Abalon Demar.
Profile
Personality
Mudflap is ruthless, willing to eliminate anybody who stands in the way of Kale's plans, but is somewhat fearful of his brother and superior, Abalon Demar. He showed no mercy when he realized that the students he was supposed to fight were merely children, even threatening to crush them. Mudflap's fear of his brother becomes apparent when he shuddered and begged for forgiveness after his glider was sliced. Despite this, Mudflap cares about his brother's well-being.
Appearance
Mudflap's body is coated in murky grey sludge with a noticeable odor, and two fins can be seen protruding from his hips. He has downturned green eyes. For clothing, he wears a large Space Police glider with shide streamers attached to it, and his belly button is hidden with a spiral shell.
Boss
Despite having the earth starsign, Mudflap does not possess any spells, but still gains his aura when Erd is in phase. He is accompanied by two buck privates in battle.
He has three primary attacks, which deal damage to all members of the party along with a potential status effect, while also dealing the same to the two buck privates at his side: blinding stench can cause members to become blind; sickening stench can cause members to have a cold; and retching odor can cause members to have their magic points drained.
When one of the buck privates has their platform raised, Mudflap will be able to perform bossy push, a powerful physical attack against one member of the party. He can perform this move even when both are defeated, although its strength is reduced.[1]

Biography
Magical Starsign
While tracking Sorbet down Shishkebab Cavern, the party discovered prison cells containing several abducted magicians. Rogan Josh, who was accompanying them, stated that Gil Mudflap carried the prison keys. The party eventually caught up to Sorbet wielding the magic potfolk Celadon, using his powers to warp beyond a door to the Stone Stage. A horde of Space Policemen rushed in alongside Mudflap, though the party withstood his foul odor and defeated him in battle. Declaring revenge, Mudflap ran away and dropped his ring of keys, so Rogan Josh took them and quickly released the captive magicians.
Back in Bena Rikashi, officers alerted Chief Abalon Demar about Mudflap's loss against the students of Will-o'-Wisp Academy, to which he ordered that Magnus Muzzleflash be reinstated into the Space Police. Mudflap then barged into Demar's office, his odor knocking the officers unconscious, and warned Demar of the catastrophic consequences of releasing Magnus. Demar, however, silenced him and ordered Mudflap to go to Cassia and await further instruction. He also warned Mudflap that Biek Fowler would terminate both of them if they failed before his return from vacation.
In an effort to claim the water millennium gummy before the students, Mudflap and Demar flew inside the second floor of the Holy Water Pyramid, where Demar massacred the guardians of the gummy, the water people. When the students arrived in the central chamber, they found Demar, Mudflap, and other SP officers observing the water gummy. The other officers started to faint from Mudflap's foul odor. Mudflap spotted the students and pointed them out. Realizing they were just children, Demar angrily questioned Mudflap's loss against the students. Mudflap swore that he could win against them this time and insisted to fight on behalf of his brother, to which Demar disagrees and insulted him. Flabbergasted by the insult, Mudflap repeated it, but Demar swiftly sliced off his gilder helmet to silence him, worsening his odor. Unable to tolerate his stench, Demar invited the students to battle outside, leaving Mudflap alone in the chamber with fainted officers. Upon defeating Demar, Mudflap was distressed by his brother's unconscious state and begged him to wake up. Immediately after, Mudflap, the other officers, and Demar's unconscious body promptly warped away, exiting the pyramid.
Trivia
- Mudflap's battle sprite is not cropped in the bestiary, causing it to extend out of the window.
- He is the only key Space Police officer who does not use magic in battle.
- In Japanese, Mudflap refers to Demar as "兄者 anija", a polite term for "elder brother" used in work-related settings.
- In the English localization, Demar calls Mudflap "sludgeface", insulting his appearance. While in Japanese, he calls him "ドンガメ dongame" (soft-shelled turtle), possibly referring to his mental fragility instead.
- Mudflap's fate after the events of Magical Starsign remains unknown. It is unclear if he was eventually fired after his failure to stop the party, as Biek Fowler died shortly after.
Nomenclature
His name comes from mudflap, rubber pads hung behind the tires of vehicles to prevent debris from getting flung.
