History
Gumbo Gaol was originally constructed as a house during the Espresso civilization's colonization of Erd over 12800 years ago, though it was repurposed as a prison when Calzone's robots took over. It was subsequently used as a holding facility for captured magicians to be turned into gummies, or even sold off to the astro pirates. The gummified magicians were then consumed by the robots to fuel their batteries.
Magical Starsign
When the protagonist and Lassi were captured by the robots in their first attempt to steal the rocket Neumann from the Kahve Ruins, they were imprisoned separately at Gumbo Gaol, with the securitron employed as their guard. While it was pacing back and forth, the protagonist used either light or dark magic to incapacitate it, using its head as a bridge across the bed of spikes once containing them. They then used the control switch on the right side of the room to enable the bridge to Lassi's cell, though she was frightened by this, believing that the robots had returned to harm her. When the protagonist greeted her instead, she was relieved and impressed that they had managed to disable the giant robot.
As the two attempted to make their exit, the securitron regained functionality, leaping out from the bed of spikes and charging at them. When they defeated it in battle, Lassi was encouraged by the strength that she and the protagonist had demonstrated, and the two went on their way to the Forgotten Land.
Nomenclature
Its name comes from gumbo, a type of stew popular in Louisiana. Gaol is an obsolete British-English alternative term for the word "jail."
