Carbon is a character in Magical Starsign. He is a mysterious magician from Kovomaka[1] who is taken to Shadra by Kale's forces and nearly sacrificed to the giant larva, but manages to escape to Chocomilk Caves with several other magicians. Prepared to fight back, he becomes acquainted with the students of Will-o'-Wisp Academy and teams up with General Knucklestorm.
Profile
Although not much can be said about Carbon, he has strong judgement and foresight, leading some to believe that he can see into the future.[2] He is also said to wield incredible magic, but at the same time, does not seem to have a magical presence.[3]
Appearance-wise, Carbon is a man with fair skin, unruly green hair, and purple eyes. His body is cloaked in a purple turban and layers of purple and burgundy robes, with a tuft of hair protruding from his turban.
Biography
Magical Starsign
Carbon was originally a top-class magician from Kovomaka,[1] but during the astro pirates' crusade across the Baklava solar system, he was taken prisoner by Kale and sent to Shishkebab Cavern on Razen. He and many other magicians were then warped to Nova inside the sun, and subsequently taken to Chromagar Cave on Shadra. Kale attempted to turn his prisoners to gummies by exposing them to the fumes within Chromagar, then have Shadra the giant larva feed on their magic energy for maturation. Luckily, Miss Madeleine gave the magicians a chance to escape by sacrificing herself, upon which Carbon quickly led them to Chocomilk Caves where plans for a revolution commenced. Meanwhile, Kale deployed pirates, enigmas, and Space Police officers to pursue them.
Once the students made it to Chocomilk Caves, the magicians in hiding directed them to Carbon, who seemingly predicted their arrival. He filled them in on what happened in Chromagar Cave and how Madeleine was still trapped inside, then divulged Kale's plans to release Shadra from the dark planet and devour the sun, which would rebirth the entire universe. Carbon urged the students to rescue Madeleine, but before they could leave the cave, a horde of enigmas lead by Jorecono stormed in. Sorbet demanded that her friends leave it be, and how their top priority was finding Miss Madeleine, but they were stopped when a unit of Space Police flew in. Luckily for them, the fleet was commanded by General Knucklestorm, who promptly joined Carbon in the fight against the enigmas. Later on, after the party defeated Shadra and parted ways with Madeleine, they were escorted out by the Space Police. Along the way, they met up with Carbon and the surviving magicians in Chocomilk Caves.
Trivia
- Carbon bears a lot of similarities to Ganache Nighthawk from Magical Vacation.
- Both characters have spiky green hair, purple eyes, and purple robes. They even speak in a similar manner in Japanese, using casual short-form vocabulary and the personal pronoun オレ ore.
- A boy named Diecast in Chocomilk Caves makes a direct reference to Ganache, citing him among many others as a legendary magician from Kovomaka,[4] where Carbon is also said to be from.[1] Van even describes Carbon as being a first-class magician even though his magical presence cannot be felt. This can be attributed to Ganache losing his magic at the end of Magical Vacation, which allowed him to reach an expanded state of consciousness.
- In Japanese, Carbon addresses Madeleine as just "Professor" at one point instead of her name[5] and also expresses concern for her safety, implying some degree of familiarity.
- When asked whether Ganache and Carbon are the same person, character designer Shinichi Kameoka simply replied that they do, in fact, look alike.[6]

His comes from carbon, a chemical element which can easily form compound substances.
