"A boy who uses dark magic. He doesn't really like talking."

Ganache Nighthawk[a] is a party member in Magical Vacation and a student at Will-o'-Wisp Academy. He and his sister, Vanilla, are descendants of necromancers that lived in a province outside the Kingdom of Kovomaka, and inherited their dark magic.

Party member[edit | edit source]

Ganache is the third classmate to be recruited by the party, joining in Oturan Village. However, he permanently leaves after the snowhair is defeated at Wetsomus Ruins. His initial levels are level 4 and magic level 3.

His element is dark, represented by the spirit Inky. Its spells are super-effective against most elements, and have a chance to absorb enemies' magic points. For stats, Ganache is exceptionally powerful in all fields.[1]

Boss[edit | edit source]

In battle, Ganache fights in the front row between a zappy hand and edgy hand. Positioned directly behind him is Kerendu, who sits in between a gloomy hand and charity hand. Ganache can use four attacks, these being kick to target one party member in the front row; abyssal void, which covers an entire row and can drain MP; call Inky to summon an Inky; and clear spirits to remove all spirits from the field except for dark, light, and love. If Ganache's HP hits 0 at any point during the fight, the party automatically loses.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Ganache has difficulty coming to terms with his heritage of dark magic, as his family of dark warlocks tend not to be well thought of by those around them. He does not try to establish meaningful relationships with anyone for this reason, but he is more open about his emotions with Olive, who can read his heart with telepathy. Although Ganache is kind-hearted by nature, he has grown more reserved after his sister went missing.[1]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Ganache has green hair and purple eyes. Two tufts of hair stick out from his violet turban, and he wears a violet surplice with a cape and garment. His garment has orange and yellow patterning, and he dons pink shoes with striped rope.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

In Ganache's hometown, he lived near an old widow, and his daily routine was to draw water from a well for her every morning. He never talked about Valencia Beach to the widow, but she found out when Candy carelessly mentioned it whilst following Ganache. Candy first met Ganache at Will-o'-Wisp Academy, falling in love with him after he reminded her of a magician from Kovomaka Kingdom's capital, who helped rid her village of trolls when she was young. Ganache did not reciprocate those feelings, and started to get annoyed with Candy accompanying him everywhere he went.

Return to the Kingdom[edit | edit source]

Ganache and Vanilla, finally free.

Upon returning to the Material Realm, rumors spread amongst enigma-possessed magicians that Ganache had become Kerendu's vessel. Even those who had prepared to raid the Kingdom were reluctant to act against Ganache's wishes, and their coalition was kept under wraps. In time, Ganache was on equal footing with them, and no one, not even his classmates, believed his magic to truly be gone. It only took less than half a year for the enigma-magicians to settle under his control. Nobody dared fight back against Ganache, Candy, or their companions, nor did they fight with one another. By that time, word of Ganache's feats reached his imprisoned sister Vanilla. Soon, the Biscotti Sect, which Ganache was a part of, seized control of the Kingdom, and Ganache left to visit his sister in captivity. On the day of Ganache's visit, Vanilla expected it to be her last decisive battle, but what appeared before her was a young boy far from being enigma-possessed, unable to use his magic. Ganache seldom spoke, "I've lost everything. But I'm grateful." Vanilla's eyes welled up with tears upon hearing those words. Afterwards, Vanilla was freed from her restraints and joined the Biscotti Sect, and in time, she too would abandon magic. Thus, the Kingdom of Kovomaka welcomed an era of peace that would last for 200 years.[1]

Magical Starsign[edit | edit source]

In Chocomilk Caves on Shadra, the party could talk to a boy named Diecast, who asked if they were from Kovomaka. If they answered "No", Diecast named Kovomakan magicians who earned it the title of the magic planet, two of whom were Ganache and Vanilla.[2] The character Carbon also bore a striking resemblance to Ganache, both in his appearance and familiarity with Miss Madeleine.[3]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • His name comes from 'ganache', a blend of chocolate and cream used for pastry filling.
  • His favorite food is tempura. He used to eat it with ketchup until Lemon said it made him smell like a commoner, so he now eats it with mayonnaise.
  • According to the game's scenario writer, Nobuyuki Inoue, Ganache was supposed to die at the end of the game, taking inspiration from Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. However, Inoue decided against it after hearing the songs Tsukasa Masuko had composed for the final scenes.[4]
  • During Magical Vacation, Ganache and Vanilla are the only users of dark magic at Will-o'-Wisp Academy.
