Gorgonzola de Formaggio, also known as King Gorgonzola and the Digging King, is a character in Magical Starsign. He is the thirteenth monarch of Mole Town Peatmoss, home of Erd's spiny mole kingdom.

Gorgonzola is a pale blue spiny mole with red eyes, a humanoid nose, and a curly black moustache. He wears a bulbous gold crown decorated with small red jewels, and a red cloak with a fluffy collar.
Biography
Magical Starsign
After the protagonist and Lassi fled Gumbo Gaol, they were led to Peatmoss and met with King Gorgonzola. Joined by Minister Munster, Gorgonzola introduced himself as the thirteenth king of the spiny mole kingdom. He recognized that neither the protagonist nor Lassi were from Erd, wondering if they were heroes of prophesy who would save the world from destruction. Munster noted that many magicians used to live in their kingdom until the robots imprisoned them. Although Lassi was skeptical about their so-called destiny, Gorgonzola promised to help them find a way to Puffoon and save Miss Madeleine. Munster elaborated that Peatmoss's "saviors" must use magical powers to vanquish the spiny moles' sworn enemy, the ant queen, and uncover a paradise of gummy worms. Upon defeating the ant queen in her lair, the two students retrieved the diggy claws and gave them to Gorgonzola. He and Munster urged the protagonist and Lassi to infiltrate Kahve Ruins once more and take the rocket stored inside, which they could use to fly to Puffoon. Using the diggy claws, Gorgonzola dug Gorgonzola's Hole-a, a tunnel leading to the Land Where the Stars Sleep, where the students resumed their journey.
Much later on, once the students touched down on Nova, they found themselves unable to access Shadra after the astro pirates destroyed the dimensional stairway in Phunnel Pit. Grenadine tried bargaining with the luminites outside Sparklin Palace to talk to the queen of light, but they were denied entry as per the queen's orders. Luckily, some dwarves arrived with Gorgonzola and a team of spiny moles, to which Gorgonzola dug out the King's Road for the students, granting them access to Sparklin Palace.
Trivia
- Gogonzola is the only spiny mole that is blue in color. Justine also reveals that despite being a spiny mole, Gorgonzola does not have spines on his body.[1]
- Although Gruyere says he called Gorgonzola "Gorgy" when they were young,[2] no such detail exists in the original Japanese version.[3] Also, Colby exclaims he may inherit Gorgonzola's throne and gets "awesome birthday presents",[4] but in Japanese, he states he is working hard to take care of his grandfather.[5]
Nomenclature
His name comes from gorgonzola, Italian blue cheese made from cow's milk.
