Blueberry Lakeside is a party member in Magical Vacation. Her specialty is water magic, and she is a student at Will-o'-Wisp Academy who comes from a line of aristocratic magicians. She is close friends with Lemon Airsupply.

Profile

Blueberry is a smart and diligent girl who devotes a lot of time to her schoolwork, and is continuously at the top of her class as a result. Unfortunately, her frail body prevents her from partaking in strenuous activities, though she still tries taking on big responsibilities by herself. Her favorite pastimes include journaling and learning about her family's heritage.

She has curly violet hair that is held up with a green headband, and has irises of a violet hue. For a torso, she wears a teal cape and purple shirt, and has a frilly skirt patterned with yellow triangles along her waist. Her platform shoes are colored purple with brown bases, and she also wears a pair of pink slouch socks.

Gameplay

Blueberry joins the party at Cold Honey Palace in the Light Realm before fighting Dab Hasnel, starting at level 7 and water magic level 7. She possesses the water spirit, which is strong against the thunder spirit, but weak to the beast spirit and dark spirit. Her magic mainly covers horizontal and entire areas, able to break enemies' defense. As for stats, Blueberry boats high MP, spirit, and MP%, but weak power, defense, and agility.

Biography

Early life

For generations, the Lakeside family produced several talented magicians who would serve the royal family. Before Blueberry was born, a fortune-teller consulted the Lakeside family, receiving visions of a future where she became an archmage who changed the world. However, in order to serve the royal family, it was customary for her to excel in both literary and military arts. Blueberry was unfortunately born with a frail body, so she had to forgo her royal duties. For her own safety, she devoted most of her time to studying indoors. At the age of 7, Blueberry spent half a year in the Water Realm with her grandmother to search for endangered water people, and also began learning the ancient Aquarim Language.[2]

When Blueberry started attending Will-o'-Wisp Academy, Cabernet Cheaptrick and a group of boys stole her bag, until Lemon Airsupply came to her rescue and beat them up. Lemon was scolded for pummeling Cabernet afterwards, but she and Blueberry became inseparable best friends.[3] While walking home with Lemon and Peche Farmer one day, Blueberry accidentally stepped on a praying mantis, though she refused to tell Peche because she knew it would make her upset. Lemon admitted to Blueberry that she squished a cricket, to which they had a good laugh.

When she grew up, Blueberry ventured to the Water Realm to further study her magic, and shared many stories with the water people.

Magical Starsign

In the Japanese version of Magical Starsign, Blueberry was mentioned by a girl named Corduroy near Ambergris Preparatory School, saying she was one of many famous magicians who graduated from the institution. Corduroy also revealed that Blueberry was related to Twigadamus (whose Japanese name is Puregu Lakeside).[4]

Nomenclature

Her name comes from blueberry, a sweet and sour fruit commonly used to make jams and juices.

  • Blueberry has 268 lines of dialogue, the most of any party member in the game.
  • Since Blueberry's backstory mentions how a fortune-teller (占い師 uranaishi, fortune-teller) visited the Lakeside family before she was born, and Corduroy reveals that Twigadamus's surname is Lakeside in Japanese, this fortune-teller could possibly be Twigadamus.
  • According to Shinichi Kameoka, Blueberry started wearing makeup on her 8th birthday.[6]
