- ―Mugwort
Mugwort, also known as Lt. Mugwort, is a character in Magical Starsign. He is a deputy Space Police officer acting as a one-day stand-in for chief Abalon Demar.
Profile
Mugwort is opportunistic and frequently taking risks to get his way. He earned his job as a stand-in chief by undertaking the risky task of massaging the chief's shoulders for three hours. Despite obtaining such an important position, he values his own gains over his duties, as shown when Cresson successfully bribed him with Brioche's two million bira.
Mugwort is a slender reptilian humanoid with green skin, long tail, pointy ears, a violet afro, and goggles. For clothing, he wears a yellow scarf, and red striped pants resembling the pants worn by zaouli dancers, along with three-toed platformers, and jewel bracelets. He also carries around a smoking pipe.

Biography
Magical Starsign
At some point, Mugwort convinced Space Police chief Abalon Demar to give him his role for one day, but only after rubbing his shoulders for three hours.
On their journey to save Miss Madeleine, the party consisting of the protagonist, Lassi, and Mokka (and Pico if Gren was visited beforehand) arrived in Bena Rikashi. They consulted every officer in the Space Police HQ, until they arrived at the chief's office. Unfortunately, the receptionist explained their chief was unavailable, suggesting they talk to his stand-in Mugwort instead. Finding Mugwort in the restroom, they retrieved a roll of toilet paper and followed him into the chief's office afterwards, alerting him of the magician-abducting astro pirates. Mugwort exclaimed their predicament did not concern the Space Police, to which Lassi resolved to save Madeleine without the officers' assistance.
After Chai fled Bena Rikashi with secret police documents, the party chased him down to Honey Mint, where he was taken in by Brioche and his father Cresson. They analyzed the documents and found Madeleine's name on a list of magicians arrested by Biek Fowler, when suddenly, Mugwort flew in with Brie Pourri. As Pourri flew Chai back to the city, Mugwort engaged in battle with the party and lost. Believing that the battle constituted assaulting an officer, Mugwort threatened to have the party arrested, until Cresson offered his son's piggy bank of two million bira as compensation. Mugwort reluctantly accepted the offer and flew off, to Brioche's dismay.
Trivia
- In the Japanese version, there is a putty in Shishkebab Cave named Mugwort (マグワート), but their name was changed to Artemisia in the English localization.
- While Mugwort's fate after his defeat is unknown, it can be assumed that he ditched his job after taking 1,975,000 bira out of the two million from Brioche's piggy bank. This is indicated by his absence in the chief's office upon re-entering it, with the opened piggy bank left behind containing only 25,000 bira.
Nomenclature
His name comes from mugwort, a family of edible herbs.
