- "So I lied! I was wrong! But how could they throw us out into the wild? Don't they get it? I made Tropica what it is today! FOOLS!"
- ―Durum
Durum is a character in Magical Starsign. He is a felin and the chief of Tropica Village on Gren, as well as the father of Farina and boss of Semolina. He maintains Tropica's safety by sacrificing magicians to the astro pirates, but withholds the fact that Farina is a magician herself, which leads to conflict with the villagers.
Profile
Durum is a selfish and cowardly person. He prioritizes his ambitions over the safety of those around him, obsessively attempting to protect his daughter despite the hypocrisy of his actions. He is shown to lie in order to save face, shown via his order for Semolina to be his daughter’s body double, turning herself in to the astro pirates so he could return to his position as the chief of Tropica Village.
Durum is an older, more traditional-looking male felin with gray fur, a square jaw, and clean silver hair. He wears a pale green nagagi overtop a white buttoned shirt, a blue haori dotted with yellow circles over his shoulders, and a pair of setta sandals.
Biography
Early life
Around five years ago, after Kale and Chard's astro pirates began abducting magicians across the Baklava solar system, Durum took measures to ensure that his magic-using daughter Farina was safe from harm. He employed Semolina to be her guardian, while magicians from Tropica Village were quickly handed over to the pirates, unaware that Durum was endangering them solely to protect Farina.

Trivia
- It is implied that Durum's wife, Farina's mother, is either deceased or absent. In the Japanese version, Fondue mentions that a certain father visits Gamelan's hut under the guise of wanting his fortune read, but is actually there "just to see the eroticism", suggesting Durum is attracted to Gamelan.[1]
Nomenclature
His name comes from durum, a type of wheat.
