Peabee Anjay is a character in Magical Vacation. Formerly a geography teacher at Will-o'-Wisp Academy and old friend of Biscotti, he is a guide for those who find themselves lost in the Dark Realm.
Profile
Personality
Peabee Anjay considers himself an expert on the universe and its secrets. His wisdom also extends to knowing everything about a person by simply looking at them. He also speaks with an archaic panache.
Appearance
He has wrinkly skin, baggy eyes, and silver hair. Over his mouth is a long moustache, and most of his hair is kept up in a purple fez-like hat with a red checkered pattern. When Peabee had a human body, he wore a long purple surplice with red outlines along the sleeve cuffs, collar, and ephod. In his right hand, he wielded a golden staff decorated with rings and a red jewel. His current inchworm body is lumpy, green, and has short spots of hair on the tip of its tail.
Biography
Early life
When he was 280 years old, Peabee Anjay retired from Will-o'-Wisp and somehow had his body replaced with an inchworm's. He had become a master at magic, which he soon found to be mundane, and decided to live a hermitic lifestyle in the Dark Realm. As for his old human body, rumor began circulating that it was kept in a science room at Will-o'-Wisp Academy.
Magical Vacation
Shortly after warping to the Dark Realm, the protagonist and Latte found Peabee Anjay at the southwest end of Spollacs Swamp Edge. Anjay sensed they were students of Miss Madeleine, and also learned of their persecution by the enigmas. He gave them a map of darkness so they could navigate the Dark Realm with ease, then advised they go north to Masala Chai Village. The party could return to Peabee Anjay throughout their adventure, wherein he gave them hints on where to go next.
Later on, the party could find Peabee Anjay guarding the entryway in Garam Masala. He told the party of when he and Biscotti were wizards-in-training, and how they traversed Garam Masala to test their skills.
Trivia
- Despite having artwork depicting him with a human body, he is never seen like this in-game.
- Peabee Anjay's staff resembles a shakujō, a ring-adorned polearm traditionally wielded by Buddhist monks.
- According to Shinichi Kameoka, Peabee Anjay was originally going to be purely human, but director Nobuyuki Inoue found it uninteresting and wanted him to be a realistic butterfly larva with a human face. The second design grossed Inoue out, so he and Kameoka settled on Peabee Anjay's current hybrid form.[1]
Nomenclature
His name comes from PB&J, an acronym for "peanut butter and jelly."

But when Director Inoue saw it, he said, "Boooring. Make him a caterpillar!" I couldn't tell whether he was joking or not, so next, he was a face on the body of a very realistic swallowtail butterfly larva. But Director Inoue said "Yuck! It's realistic!" so we settled on the geometer moth larva body that appears in the final game."" Mattsun, [1]. Archived: [2]. Retrieved August 29, 2024. Br2.co.jp.
