Guide

To unlock Garam Masala, the player must first defeat the game's final boss and reload their save. Doing so unlocks a side quest in which two dwarves can be found in Dark Realm, and two in the Abyssal Realm. By talking to the dwarves with Latte in the party, his special power convinces them to join Bruschetta at Opopmat Cave in the Dark Realm. The four dwarves and their locations are listed below:
Name | Location |
---|---|
Baguette | Spollacs Swamp |
Bagel | The Badlands |
Brioche | Abyssal Corridor 3 |
Pretzel | Despair Swamp 2 |
Overview
At Garam Masala's entrance, the player must talk to Peabee Anjay, who offers three difficulty modes for the dungeon: Lukewarm (ヌル Nuru, Null), Flavorful (ナミ Nami, Average), and Spicy (オニ Oni, Demon). Once a mode has been selected, it cannot be changed unless the player exits Garam Masala and re-enters through Opopmat Cave. The chosen difficulty does not affect the level of enemies or dungeon layout; rather, it affects the amount of gummy frogs that Porcelain Pots ask for, and whether the player is allowed to bring their own gummy frogs into the dungeon (only on Lukewarm and Flavorful). As for Spicy, all gummy frogs are confiscated immediately after the first Porcelain Pot in Garam Masala is removed (read Spicy Mode for details).
In order to complete the bestiary, it is recommended that the player first goes through Garam Masala on Lukewarm or Flavorful, and fight the Dinrendu boss at Garam Masala 50. Once Ricebird joins the party at Garam Masala 50 on Spicy, Dinrendu and the exclusive enemies accompanying it will no longer respawn. Also, in order to recruit MD01-Tuna, the guardian must be fought at Garam Masala 50 on Flavorful or Spicy with at least one open spot in the party.
Since healing items are scarce in Garam Masala, an easy way to keep the party healthy is by using Let's Onsen in Link Mode. HP Pots and MP Pots will appear throughout the dungeon based on how many amigos have been registered through Let's Amigo.
Porcelain Pots and gummy frogs
Porcelain Pots are placed around the dungeon specifically to hinder progress. By feeding a Porcelain Pot the amount of gummy frogs they demand, they disappear until the player re-enters the room. Gummy frogs must be fed to the Porcelain Pots in a batch, meaning it is not possible to feed multiple colors at once. However, unlike places such as the Pyramid, not all the Porcelain Pots need to be removed from each floor of the dungeon to progress; some Porcelain Pots lead to dead ends, or block corridors that can be otherwise reached on foot. The minimum and maximum demands are 1 and 20 respectively.
Below is a chart showing how gummy frogs fed to Porcelain Pots increase or decrease their demands, and how they vary between difficulties:
— | Lukewarm | Flavorful | Spicy |
---|---|---|---|
Green | +1 | +1 | +2 |
Blue | +1 | +1 | +1 |
Red | =1 | -1 | ±0 |
Shadowy monsters roam Garam Masala, engaging in combat when the protagonist walks into them. These shadows turn into green or blue gummy frogs when defeated, which also lowers the Porcelain Pots' demands depending on the color. The gummy frog is then added to the player's inventory (unless there are 99 of that frog on-hand), which gets marked on the Gummy Frogs Caught section of the report card. This cannot be prevented with Cabernet's special power.
Below is a chart showing how gummy frog shadows affect Porcelain Pots' demands:
— | Lukewarm | Flavorful | Spicy |
---|---|---|---|
Green | -2 | -2 | -1 |
Blue | -1 | -1 | ±0 |
Spicy Mode
As mentioned above, Spicy Mode begins with Peabee Anjay confiscating all gummy frogs on-hand. Also, the only way to reduce the Porcelain Pots' demands is by defeating green gummy frog shadows. Since there is a set amount of green frog shadows, there is also a limit to how many times the Porcelain Pots' demands can be reduced. Therefore, as green and blue frogs are being fed to the Porcelain Pots, their demands begin to increase rapidly. Gummy frogs can be obtained from random encounters, but because they did not come from frog shadows, they will not affect the demands.
To begin Spicy Mode, the player should first insert a red frog into the first Porcelain Pot, after which Peabee Anjay confiscates all remaining frogs. The main way to obtain red frogs is from treasure chests throughout Garam Masala, but it should be noted that the chests do not refill when exiting and re-entering the dungeon. As such, it is advised that most chests be left unopened on Lukewarm or Flavorful Mode, so that the red frogs inside can be used to clear Spicy Mode. If the party is at around level 200-300, and the protagonist is a light mage, the player can go to Yekrut 8F where an endless supply of red frogs can be found. By collecting 99 red frogs from Yekrut and returning to Garam Masala 5, working down the dungeon will be made significantly easier. In any case, the Porcelain Pots' demands should be kept around 1 gummy frog as often as possible.
Hidden party members
Throughout the dungeon are hidden party members. They can be recruited depending on the difficulty, and if there is at least one open slot in the party.
- Chappy - Garam Masala 4 (any difficulty)
- Pot - Garam Masala 9 (any difficulty)
- Pucine the 4th - Garam Masala 21 (Flavorful/Spicy)
- Dodo - Garam Masala 31 (Flavorful/Spicy)
- Ricebird - Garam Masala 50 (Spicy)
- MD01-Tuna - Garam Masala 50 (Flavorful/Spicy, missable)
History
In the past, Garam Masala was used by magicians to put their abilities to the test, most notably Biscotti and Peabee Anjay. At some point, White, the previous manager of Iko Domnag in the Light Realm, built the high-end magic doll MD01-Tuna. Being one of the only dolls capable of naturally regenrating magic, many sought Tuna's power and a war sparked over its ownership. Biscotti settled the dispute by sealing Tuna within Garam Masala, which then sank beneath Muy Mot Desert. Tuna would eventually become a servant to the guardian, an almighty magic doll created in ancient times.
Trivia
- On Garam Masala 5, 7, 9, 14, and 15, it is possible to glitch the frog shadows' pathfinding, which makes them walk into each other and slip out of walls.
Nomenclature
Its name comes from गरम मसाला garam masala, a mix of hot spices used in cuisine across the Indian subcontinent.
