This is a list of notable differences or changes between the Japanese text and English localization of Magical Starsign. Rather than listing every change, the list serves to show possible nuances, references, or lines which were removed and/or altered between regions. Most cases of removed or altered dialogue is are also present in the French, German, Italian, and Spanish localizations, since they are largely adapted from the English script.

Party

  • Lassi is ジャスミン Jasmine
  • Mokka is カフェラテ Caffé Latte ("coffee with milk" in Italian). His dialogue is written in a messy font in Katakana, which does not have an equivalent in the English version.
  • Pico is ポモドーロ Pomodoro ("tomato" in Italian).
  • Sorbet is シュガー Sugar.
  • Chai's name is unchanged, but in Japanese, he has a quirk of ending sentences with the Katakana character ノ no, which does not have an equivalent in English.

Main characters

  • Miss Madeleine's name is unchanged, but only in Japanese, certain characters refer to her with the surname ド・タスカ Do Tasuka, an anadrome of カスタード custard.
  • Brie Pourri is ナジョ・ドルーゴ Najo Dorūgo, an anadrome of ジョナゴールド Jonagold, and Knucklestorm is ジフンサー Jifunsā, an anadrome of サンふじ Sun Fuji. Their names being based on apples is reflected in their color schemes and familial relationship.
  • Twigadamus is プーレグ Pūregu, an anadrome of グレープ grape. Corduroy reveals his full name is プーレグ・レイクサイド Pūregu Lakeside, indicating he is related to Blueberry Lakeside from Magical Vacation.
  • Persimmon is ブラッディ・サンギーヌ Bloody Sanguine. He explicitly states he is 128 years-old in Japanese, whereas in English, his age is unmentioned and he calls himself "the Embellisher."
  • Magnus Muzzleflash is キジカ・ログマ Kijika Roguma, an anadrome of マグロカジキ magurokajiji (marlin). In English,

  • Rio Villa is a mistranslation or misinterpretation of リ・オ・ヴィラ Ri O Vira, an anadrome of ラヴィオリ raviolli.

Will-o'-Wisp Academy
  • In English, when the students discuss Lassi's disappearance in the meditation room, Pico reminds them of a prank that the seniors played in which they hid in the academy's necromancy lab. In Japanese, no necromancy lab, nor a senior class, is mentioned.
Ambergris Preparatory School
Sparklin Palace
  • In Japanese, Filamen tells the students how the queen of light passed away 1,000 years ago to undergo a new cycle of reincarnation, In English, this was shortened to 100 years ago.

Bestiary entries

  • In English, Umbra's entry refers to it as an incarnation of Shadra after devouring millennium gummies. In Japanese, there is no mention of Shadra whatsoever, instead calling Umbra, or トケ・ビス Toke Bisu (from ビスケット biscuit) a creature that grew by eating millennium gummy-class gummies.

Diary entries

  • In entry 039, Sorbet wonders if Knucklestorm Jifunsā left the Space Police due to the incompetence of King Suspiro (Chimo Tabo) in Japanese. In English, she instead wonders if Knucklestorm left because of Kale.

Other

  • Characters' dialogue lines open with a ★ in Japanese.
  • In Japanese, the menu background features the game's logo, which is absent in English.
