Plane
Planes, also known as dimensions, are a concept in the Magical Vacation series.
Profile
Planes are self-contained worlds that overlap each other in different dimensions, comprising the whole universe. A plane is produced whenever a concept is brought into existence, as well as a magic attribute and spirit representative of that concept. For example, when the concept of oil was born, so were the Oil Plane and Oil Spirit.[1] In a more esoteric sense, planes are coequally perceived as stars in the sky, the soul's flame, and one's future self, which can be seen as likening an individual to the universe in its entirety.[2]
There are multiple ways to move between planes. These include warp magic, an advanced spell that only the most powerful magicians can cast; etherealization, the process by which matter becomes pure light energy; technology outfitted with a magic power generator, such as the magic bus and Will-o'-Wisp Academy's summoning machine; or twisting space to create a rift between planes, which is achieved by exerting strong higher-dimensional PSI energy.

Material Plane
The Material Plane is a world of matter where the planets of the Baklava solar system reside, including the planet Kovomaka, Kovomaka Kingdom, and Will-o'-Wisp Academy. Magic and spirits were not widely known here until Biscotti, who fused with Yūvekku, brought magic to the Material Plane and founded Will-o'-Wisp to promulgate its teachings.
Light Plane
The Light Plane is the world of light. A land rich with culture and history, it is enveloped in a natural light that weakens beings of darkness such as enigmas. The plane's most prominent location, Rēmittsu Palace, symbolizes the age of antiquity that ended around 200 years before present time.
Dark Plane
The Dark Plane is the world of darkness. It surges with the power of shadows that brings together the extremes of nature, from deep marshes to raging volcanoes.
Death Plane
The Death Plane is a desolate, lifeless world which governs the universe's laws of death and reincarnation. Any living thing that dies on the Death Plane is said to be erased from existence.

Water Plane
The Water Plane (水のプレーン Mizu no Purēn) is the world of water. It is home to the water people, as well as a country of frogs where the master frog in Cabernet Cheaptrick's hat supposedly came from. This world was invaded by enigmas at some point, causing the colossal water people to split into smaller bodies and scatter across different planes. Blueberry Lakeside began visiting the Water Plane at the age of 7 with her grandmother, searching for remaining water people and learning the ancient Aquarim Language. After she graduated from Will-o'-Wisp, Blueberry ventured to the Water Plane to deepen her bond with the water people.
This plane was also the home world of an unnamed magician who, after extensive training, gained the power to change everything in the universe. When war erupted on the Water Plane, the magician lost their child in battle and attempted to destroy the universe in their despair. The magician consequently died and was reincarnated as a star in Rakyūo, at which point they realized the universe was eternal and constantly being reborn by the magic of its denizens.
Fire Plane
The Fire Plane (火のプレーン Hi no Purēn) is the world of fire. It uses milori silver coins as currency, and is also where a magician passed away before being reincarnated as a star.[3] The protagonist began a long journey across twenty planes, starting on the Fire Plane, if they defeated the final boss as a dark-attribute magician.
Wind Plane
The Wind Plane (風のプレーン Kaze no Purēn) is the world of wind. It is where the first country of felins was founded before they migrated to other planes.[4] A special mineral called wind stone, which is used to craft winged studs, can only be found here. This world was also home to the Archmagician of the Wind Plane, a famous spellcaster who died and reincarnated as a star.[5] The protagonist's journey ended on the Wind Plane after leaving their legacy across many countries and landmarks, where they passed away at the age of 87.
Wood Plane
The Wood Plane (木のプレーン Ki no Purēn) is the world of wood. It is home to the first country of wolks.[4]
Thunder Plane
The Thunder Plane (雷のプレーン Kaminari no Purēn) is the world of thunder. It is where thunder seals are produced.
Sound Plane
The Sound Plane (音のプレーン Oto no Purēn) is the world of sound. It used to be the home of noisemarch, who was banished for being evil and fusing with an enigma.
Rainbow Plane
The Rainbow Plane (虹のプレーン Niji no Purēn) is a secret world that can only be accessed by a faction known as the rainbow emissaries, who travel to it by wearing the magic set.[6]
Trivia
- During the development of Magical Vacation, while it was still under the working title Mahō no Natsuyasumi: the magical vacation, the setting consisted of four planar dimensions called the lower worlds (下の世界), which the main cast would have explored in order to find their missing teacher.
- When designing the settings of Magical Vacation, background artist Kōji Tsuda aimed to express director Nobuyuki Inoue's worldview of otherworldly planes alongside Shinichi Kameoka's characters to their fullest potential on the Game Boy Advance, wanting the game to have a fantasy world like never before.[7]
