Magic bus
The magic bus is a mechanic in Magical Vacation.
Profile
The magic bus is, as its name implies, a vehicle powered by magic. It is piloted by Balsamico, a servant of Kovomaka Kingdom, and lent to Principal Biscotti to transport the students of Will-o'-Wisp Academy to Valencia Beach. The bus can also be used to warp to other planes, and is loaded with items that students apparently left behind on past trips to the Seaside School.[1]
Gameplay
Party management
Party management (パーティ操作) is used to add or remove characters from the party. Up to six characters may be in the party at once, and the protagonist cannot be removed. Depending on where players are at in the story, mandatory characters cannot be removed either. When hovering over a character, their current stats, including stat boosts from equipment, will appear on the screen.
Rest
Rest (ひと休み) fully restores the active party's HP and MP.
Ride
Ride (乗る) lets the player drive the magic bus around within a certain distance from its original location, and random encounters will not occur. This function cannot be used on the Death Plane, as the bus will be stuck in the sand that surrounds the Great Rock.[2]
Scavenge!!
Scavenge!! (やさがし！！) sends the students on a search around the bus with a chance to find items. It is the only way to obtain the washbasin, towel, bathrobe, slippers, and bath set. On rare occasions, characters can find holey leaves on Chocolat's head.
Warp
Warp (ワープ) is used to warp between Java Sparrow Plains on the Light Plane, East Forest on the Dark Plane, and the Great Rock on the Death Plane. This function cannot be used until the party reunites in the East Forest.
Trivia
- The bus's Japanese name, 魔バス ma basu, is short for 魔動力バス madōryoku basu,[3] meaning "magic-powered bus."
- By itself, 魔 ma can also mean "demon," which seems to be represented in the bus's design.
- According to MagiVaca ni Matsuwaru Uwasa, vehicles like the magic bus were mass produced over 10000 years ago, but they ran on fossil fuels instead of magical power.[4]
