Party member[edit | edit source]
Chocolat is the twelfth classmate to be recruited by the party, joining in Abos Village after the events in Mt. Morbier. His initial levels are level 35 and magic level 16.

Special power[edit | edit source]
Chocolat's special power lets him find yellow worms underneath kicked rocks. This does not count towards the Gummy Worms Caught section of the report card, thereby not affecting the appearance of Rockies or the rejection of Pretties.
Profile[edit | edit source]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Chocolat is very quiet, and communicates by speaking gibberish or using simple words. He is very childish, clueless, and enjoys observing woodland creatures. In Japanese, he sometimes scrambles words, an example being たけてす taketesu instead of たすけて tasuekte (help me).[1]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
As all mudmen are, Chocolat's body is earthen and egg-shaped with two large arms and stumpy legs. His face is comprised of three circular holes, and small plant growths cover his head and shoulders. These plants are a type of snakeweed native to Kovomaka.[2][1]
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Chocolat was long thought to be just a rock in the earth. On a hill near the academy, he stayed half-buried in the soil surrounded by grass, so nobody thought he was a living creature. Two decades ago, construction for a new road began on the hill where he was buried, and he groaned when a worker accidentally struck his head with a pickaxe. At that very moment, he was finally recognized as being alive. Upon being discovered by the construction crew, Chocolat had trouble moving out of the ground until he got scared by dug-up earthworms. He started to move, but was so slow that the earthworms caught up to him. As time passed, he began to feel nostalgic towards the sensation of worms crawling on his earthen shell, often digging holes in the ground to relive those days. He also took a liking to small animals, especially birds and lizards who called his body home.[3]
Magical Vacation[edit | edit source]
Chocolat first appeared when everyone boarded the magic bus. He was one of the last to join as Miss Madeleine struggled to push him on board. On the drive to Valencia Beach, his classmates asked questions about his past, to which he responded mostly in single-word answers. Blueberry helped explain Chocolat's life, and how he was enrolled into Will-o'-Wisp by Principal Biscotti after being unearthed.
After the enigmas warped the students away to the Light Realm later that night, Chocolat was not seen again until the protagonist, Blueberry, Lemon, and Peche left Cold Honey Palace through its back gate. There, he was accompanied by a suspicious dwarf named Quattro Fromaggi, but they were out of sight when the students tried to chase after them. They assumed Chocolat was taken through Rekcarc Quarry to Ufot Village, where only dwarves were allowed. Since the road to the Ufot Village was guarded, they took another road that led them to the southern end of Rekcarc Quarry. They found Cassis by a river and explain what happened, so he set off to find Chocolat while the party looked for Latte in Ville de Souris. On his hunt, Cassis eventually found himself in Ufot Village following the party's arrival at Iko Domnag, only to be caught in a fight and taken to the Dark Realm alongside Candy, Cider, Cabernet, Olive, and Ganache. Chocolat and Sesame were sent there as well.
Grenadine helped the students in Iko Domnag by upgrading Latte with a magic power generator. They used it to send the magic bus back to Will-o'-Wisp in the Material Realm, and Balsamico suggested they use Latte's new device to reverse-engineer the school's summoning machine. By doing so, it allowed the protagonist, Latte, and a third student to shift into the Dark Realm. Ganache guided the students who were sent to the Dark Realm, urging them to look out for Sesame and Chocolat.
When Peabee Anjay offered his guidance to the party, they stumbled upon Cassis swearing revenge against Quattro Formaggi, who still had Chocolat captive. The dwarf explained that he wanted to borrow Chocolat's power, and they fled once again when Cassis's classmates entered the scene. Quattro Formaggi revealed his ability to warp, which Cassis found odd since dwarves were a magicless species. This is because an enigma, Dab Hasnel, was possessing Quattro Formaggi's body and used it as a disguise. With Cassis on the team, they ventured into Masala Chai Village where an argument broke out between Cider and his classmates. Cider revealed that Ganache, Olive, Candy, and Cabernet went south to the Enigma Forest, suggesting that Chocolat may be there too.
Before they could go south, the party sailed to Ice Island to find a cure for the ooze fever, which Chief Ginger's daughter, Cinnamon, seemed to be suffering from. They saved Mace inside the island's Gelato Cave, then were met with Quattro Formaggi yet again; however, he showed up solo. Cassis demanded to know Chocolat's whereabouts, but the enigma possessing Quattro Formaggi chose to expose its true form instead. Luckily, Cider showed up in time to attack it and save everyone. Fleeing once more, Dab Hasnel took Chocolat to the Dark Realm's eastern regions.
The party continued to venture through the Dark Realm in search of their missing friends, reuniting with Sesame and Miss Madeleine along the way. They soon made it to the Eastern Forest where Ganache and the remaining students' friendships grew tense, especially between Olive and Candy. Ganache heard Chocolat's cries for help in the distance, so he and Cabernet left to help their classmate. As for the party, they were rejoiced to see the magic bus warp into the Dark Realm, effectively bringing thirteen out students back together. Meanwhile, Ganache and Cabernet ran into a pyrite from Abos Village, who said it saw a mudman being taken to the Mt. Morbier volcano. Ganache wondered why Dab Hasnel would settle in a volcano, and the pyrite answered by explaining that a mudman's chest cavity held their jewel "hearts". By boiling Chocolat and crumbling his body, it would allow the enigma to take the jewel and absorb its magical power.
Dab Hasnel, still possessing Quattro Formaggi, dragged Chocolat through the fiery cavern and was nearly caught by Miss Madeleine, but not before running in further. The party caught up with their teacher, then watched her use her light magic to kill Quattro Formaggi and Dab Hasnel simultaneously. Madeleine bid farewell to both spirits and wished them a happy reincarnation. Once the tension subsided, she calmly asked her students to return to the magic bus so she could bring everyone back home as a group. It took a turn for the worst when a pyrite said that Ganache and Cabernet had entered the Toptoh Mines while trying to find Olive and Candy. With a new destination in sight, Chocolat joined the team outside of a house in Abos Village, containing an underground passage to the Toptoh Mines.
A perilous journey followed, in which the students chased Ganache and Candy through the Abyssal Realm, since Ganache planned on fusing with the former enigma king Kerendu. They managed to save Candy before venturing into Drazzig Grotto, where they caught up to Ganache meeting with Kerendu. Although his words were sparse, Chocolat chimed in as everyone pleaded for Ganache to come home. Fortunately, they defeated Kerendu before the fusion could commence, but Ganache had to relinquish all his magic in the process. Once Kerendu was vanquished for good in the Revival Chamber, the class rejoiced and journeyed back to the Material Realm.
Return to the Kingdom[edit | edit source]
Chocolat spent his days on a hill near the academy, enjoying the sensations of wind and birdsong.[1]
