PSI
PSI is a concept in the Magical Vacation series.
Profile
Unlike magic, which is the manipulation of the universe's natural properties, PSI can be defined as the physics of a higher dimension.[1] These non-magic abilities include being able to levitate objects with the mind (telekinesis), observing the future (precognition/clairvoyance), and reading peoples' hearts (telepathy).
History
During the Espresso civilization's occupation of Erd over 12,800 years ago, their leader Calzone began a four-year plan to experiment on a robotic artificial intelligence program titled Ribbit Ribbit. The Espressos' goal was to enter the sun and reach Nova, which they could achieve by using psionic forces to twist space. Shortly before development on Ribbit Ribbit Alpha commenced, Calzone invited Applepie from the Espressos' home planet Puffoon to test her PSI powers. She was tasked with talking to the spiny moles, but could not understand their language, believing that Calzone had overestimated her abilities. Applepie would undergo multiple PSI amplification tests, in which the Espresso technicians proved that strong mental energies could bend the fabric of space.[2] Several more psychics were eventually brought to Erd, and the experiments performed on them were utilized in the production of Ribbit Ribbit Beta.[3] By the time Beta was completed, Applepie's powers increased to a level where she could lift battle tanks with her mind.[4] However, the brownies declared war against the Espressos and the robots went haywire, turning most of the civilization into gummies to fuel their battery cores.
Other instances of PSI powers were seen throughout history. Pistachio Maplewood had the power to bend spoons with his mind and read unopened envelopes, which his community believed was the work of a god. Olive Tearclown was born with power the to read the true feelings of peoples' hearts, but became afraid of this ability when she presumably felt the presence of an enigma. Twigadamus and Gamelan were able to perform divination rituals, allowing them to see into the future through magic crystals.
Trivia
- In Fondue's trivia of the Holy Water Pyramid overlook, they state the pyramid is projecting a column of energy, which only those with ESP (extrasensory powers) can see.[5] In Japanese, Fondue calls this power a spiritual sense (
霊 感 reikan),[6] but its relation to PSI, if any, is unclear.
