Souffle Sherbet, also known as Souffle Rainbow, is a character in Uchū no Kishi. She is a student at Will-o'-Wisp Academy who uses the dark spirit, and is Cidre Rainbow's younger cousin. Regarded as a legendary magician from Kovomaka,[1] Souffle has unusual powers that allow her to hear the voices of people from afar.
Profile
Souffle is soft-spoken and shy, but has artistic and magical talent. She is said to be very creative, having learned from and even surpassed her cousin Cidre in artistic ability. When her friends are in danger, Souffle demonstrates a much braver personality and is prepared to fight back.
Souffle's hair is brown and parted in the middle with four symmetrical strands that curl over her forehead. She wears two saucer-shaped bun covers, each with a yellow star in the middle, and purple-pink triangle sequences along the rims. Connected to her bun covers are white bag-like accessories, with the bottoms colored pink, purple, and yellow. Souffle's shoulders are cloaked with a flowing pink veil, and by a longer purple one that reaches down to about her waist. Souffle wears a pale pink sweater with a purple drawstring, styled with the purple-pink triangles across the cuffs and bottom hem. Additionally, she wears purple and pink striped stockings, and a pair of brown boots.
Biography
Early life
Souffle was Cidre Rainbow's younger cousin, and she learned how to draw from him. When she was 7, Souffle made a drawing that got the attention of a buyer, but Cidre claimed that it was his creation and sold it.[2] As Cidre continued to mentor Souffle, he found himself intrigued by her free-spirited and experimental techniques.[3]
Magical Starsign
At Chocomilk Caves on Shadra, a boy named Diecast asked the party if they were students of Will-o'-Wisp Academy. If they answered "No", Diecast went on to list a number of magicians from Kovomaka, among them being Souffle (surname Rainbow), whose infamy earned Kovomaka the nickname the "star of sages."[1]
Uchū no Kishi
In the continuity of Uchū no Kishi, Souffle (surname Sherbet) accompanied Cidre, Mash Blanc, Sugar Ronsard, Pistachio Maplewood, and Arancia Scorenote on their way to meet up with Vanilla Nighthawk. The night before, an alien life-form named the "Sheep" crash landed near Kovomaka Kingdom, leading to an investigation by Vanilla, the White Hawk Magic Knights, and Elite Force Magic Knights.
Souffle tried using her powers to detect Vanilla's voice, which seemed to fade as they approached the Sheep's crash site. Noticing Vanilla's absence, Pistachio, Arancia, and Cidre tried to fight the Sheep with their own magic. Their efforts proved futile when the Sheep was left unscathed, to which it retaliated and attacked most of the group. Stepping out of the debris, Souffle ordered Mash Sugar to run away before calling forth Kerurendu, the enigma king.
Trivia
- While Souffle is introduced as a user of dark magic in Uchū no Kishi, this seems to contradict a statement made in MagiVaca ni Matsuwaru Uwasa, which explains that Ganache and Vanilla are the only dark-users at Will-o'-Wisp Academy[4] during the events of Magical Vacation. The Nighthawk family uses dark magic because they carry the dark spirit's blood, but it is unknown whether the same is true for Souffle.
Nomenclature
Her name comes from soufflé, a French desert made with flavor mix and egg whites.
