Mash Blanc is the main character of Uchū no Kishi. He is a student at Will-o'-Wisp Academy who uses the fire spirit. He accompanies Sugar Ronsard and a group of senior students to meet with Vanilla Nighthawk, whose brigade is conducting an investigation of the "Sheep".
Profile
Mash is an active and silly boy who rushes into situations head-on, sometimes to his classmates' annoyance, but is quick to help out others when they are in danger. He seems to be inexperienced in magic, evidenced by his astonishment when his classmates summon spirits and cast powerful spells.
His appearance is based off the male protagonist of Magical Starsign, known officially as Galette. Mash is a fit teenager with orange-brown hair and blue eyes. He wears a big white cap embroidered with his signature symbol, sporting a red upper-chest piece with decorated shoulder pads, as well as red forearm-length gloves. Along his lower chest is a diamond-patterned drape over his baggy, lowered-to-foot pants which are ornamented with red knots. His pants are further tucked into his shoes at the bottom.
Biography
Uchū no Kishi
After an alien being dubbed the "Sheep" crash landed near Kovomaka Kingdom, Vanilla Nighthawk and her White Hawk Magic Knights were sent to investigate it. Once the White Hawks met up with the Elite Force Magic Knights at the crash site, the "Sheep" awakened and supposedly annihilated both groups. Meanwhile, Mash and his classmates Sugar Ronsard, Pistachio Maplewood, Arancia Scorenote, Cidre Rainbow, and Souffle Sherbet drove through Eldile Plains to meet up with Vanilla. Mash carelessly rode his bike through the field's puddles, but grew worried when Pistachio and Souffle exclaimed they could no longer detect Vanilla.
The students eventually made it to the crash site, and as Mash drove towards the rampaging "Sheep", it struck Sugar and launched her off her bike. When Sugar turned out to be okay, Mash alerted his classmates as they prepared to fight back. He watched in awe as Pistachio, Arancia, and Cidre summoned spirits and unleashed their strongest magic. However, their spells had no effect against the "Sheep", who retaliated against the senior students. Sugar feared her classmates were going to be killed as Mash held her back, when suddenly, Souffle emerged from the debris and told the two to run. She then cried out Kerurendu's name, summoning the former enigma king to fight against the "Sheep".
Nomenclature
His name possibly comes from marshmallow, a confectionary made from sugar and gelatin, which is shared with the male protagonist of Magical Vacation. His surname comes from blanc (pronounced blan), meaning "white" in French.
