Vanilla Nighthawk is a character in Magical Vacation. A user of the dark spirit, she is Ganache's older sister and a former Will-o'-Wisp Academy student who went missing after attending the Valencia Beach Seaside School. She was also the lover of the late Chardonnay Cheaptrick.
In Uchū no Kishi, Vanilla appears as the leader of the White Hawk Magic Knights, a brigade of magicians serving of Kovomaka Kingdom who are tasked with investigating the "Sheep".
Profile
Before going missing, Vanilla was a reserved and sensitive person, but also very compassionate. A certain event caused a drastic change in her emotions, making her feel extreme happiness or sadness at a moment's notice. She also expresses self-loathing about her ancestry, outright believing that people do not care about her.
Vanilla has purple eyes, curly magenta hair, and two pigtails protruding from openings in her purple headscarf. Her attire is similar to Ganache's, but with a few color changes; while parts of her brother's clothes are orange and yellow, hers are blue.

Biography
Early life
Vanilla and her brother Ganache were descended from magicians who lived in a country west of Kovomaka Kingdom, and carried the blood of the dark spirit. Their ancestors practiced curses and corpse manipulation, but even after such practices were abandoned, the public were still prejudiced against dark magic, forcing the Nighthawks to conceal their powers.[2] As children, Vanilla and Ganache would often visit Rehikafu Swamp on the Dark Plane. During her tenure at Will-o'-Wisp Academy, Vanilla began dating fellow student Chardonnay Cheaptrick, and Ganache befriended Chardonnay's younger brother Cabernet.
Three years years before Magical Vacation, Vanilla and her class attended the academy's annual Seaside School at Valencia Beach. They were inevitably attacked by enigmas, but Vanilla survived and returned to Will-o'-Wisp, unaware that an enigma had fused into her heart. The effects of fusion caused her emotions to spiral out of control, and she became increasingly obsessed with power. Not too long after her return, Vanilla became convinced that her dark magic made her unworthy of peoples' affection. Chardonnay tried talking Vanilla out of her misery, but she remained unconvinced. Cabernet told his brother that Vanilla's emotions were not worth his time, except Chardonnay knew something about her was not right. Vanilla had one last conversation with Ganache afterwards, asking him she could defeat Biscotti in a duel, though Ganache disapproved. She then exclaimed that the "weak Vanilla" was gone, assuring Ganache that she could crush both him and Biscotti. Later that day, Vanilla ran away from Kovomaka Kingdom.
Two years later, she became fully obsessed with power, allowing the enigma to assimilate her heart and body. From Cashew Bridge to Garbanzo, she thrashed over two hundred of the kingdom's soldiers as they tried to stop her rampage. Chardonnay, who joined the royal army after graduating, was one of the soldiers stationed in Garbanzo, and he too was killed by Vanilla. The battle ended when Biscotti intervened, fighting Vanilla head-on and using his magic to seal her away in Chiboust Castle. Before Chardonnay passed away, he asked for his bones to be buried near Chiboust Castle so that he could watch over Vanilla.
Magical Vacation
After being transported to the Light Plane, Ganache's encounters with enigmas allowed him to learn what happened to Vanilla three years prior. This helped him devise a plan, wherein he would fuse with the former enigma king Kerurendu and kill the guards surrounding Chiboust Castle. He frequently reflected on his time spent with Vanilla before her departure, communicating his anger to Olive and Candy, the latter of whom eventually fused with an enigma herself. Before Ganache could fuse with Kerurendu in Moginasu Magic Grotto, Candy announced a premonition of her accompanying him to Chiboust Castle and freeing Vanilla. Ganache's classmates were able to kill Kerurendu, though his contact with the enigma forced him to release all of his magic. However, he discovered that he had attained a higher state of consciousness, and that his soul could freely travel the universe.
After Magical Vacation
Upon Ganache's return to the Material Plane, rumors spread amongst enigma-possessed magicians that he had become Kerurendu's vessel. In just half a year, he allied with the enigma-possessed and founded the Biscotti Sect, who eventually seized control of Kovomaka Kingdom. Ganache then arrived at Chiboust Castle, to which Vanilla prepared to fight her brither. However, Ganache came to the fortress without magic, telling Vanilla that he was content despite losing everything. Vanilla broke down in tears as she was finally freed from her restraints, joining the Biscotti Sect and abandoning magic as well. Thus, Kovomaka Kingdom entered an era of peace that would last for 200 years.
Magical Starsign
Vanilla was mentioned by a boy named Diecast in Chocomilk Caves, who stated that she and Ganache, among a few others, were magicians from Kovomaka who earned it the title of the "star of sages".[3]
Uchū no Kishi
In this continuity, Vanilla became the chief of the White Hawk Magic Knights, a brigade of magicians in service of Kovomaka Kingdom. She was ordered by King Geasshigaou Ōden to join the kingdom's Elite Force Magic Knights in their investigation of the Sheep, an alien life form that crash landed in Eldile Plains the night before. The Sheep awoke and supposedly annihilated the White Hawks, which was reported to King Ōden and his counselor Khao Yam shortly after.
Trivia
- Concept artwork of Vanilla depicts her with her name written as バニラ Banira, since V and B sounds are interchangeable in Japanese.[4]

Nomenclature
Her name comes from vanilla, a spice often used in sweet foods such as ice cream.
