Vanilla Nighthawk is a character in Magical Vacation. She is Ganache's older sister, as well as a former Will-o'-Wisp Academy student who went missing after attending the Valencia Beach Seaside School. She also appears in Knights of the Universe as the leader of the White Hawks Magic Knights.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Before going missing, Vanilla was known to be a reserved and sensitive person, but also very compassionate.[1]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Vanilla has purple eyes and curly magenta hair, and two pigtails protruding from openings in her purple headscarf. Her attire is similar to Ganache's, but with a few color changes; while parts of her brother's clothes are orange and yellow, hers are various shades of blue.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Vanilla leaving Chardonnay.

Vanilla and her brother Ganache came from a bloodline of necromancers who lived in a country west of Kovomaka Kingdom. As children, they would often visit Spollacs Swamp in the Dark Realm.

Three years years before Magical Vacation, Vanilla was a student of Will-o'-Wisp Academy who attended the Valencia Beach Seaside School. She and her classmates were attacked by enigmas during their stay, and their strength was barely enough to try and fight back. Vanilla survived the attack, but returned to Will-o'-Wisp with an enigma fused into her heart. The after-effects of fusion caused her emotions to spiral out of control, and she became increasingly obsessed with power. Not too long after her return, Vanilla convinced herself that she never had a place in the world. Chardonnay tried to talk Vanilla out of her misery, but she walked away unconvinced. Cabernet, Chardonnay's younger brother, told him that Vanilla's emotions were not worth his time, except Chardonnay knew something about her was not right. Before departing from Will-o'-Wisp, Vanilla had one last conversation with Ganache. She asked if it was possible for her to defeat Biscotti in a duel, to which Ganache answered with disapproval. She abandoned the academy later that day, and her name went unspoken ever since.

Two years following her desertion, Vanilla became fully obsessed with power, causing the enigma to assimilate her heart and body. From Cashew's Bridge to Garbanzo, she thrashed over two hundred of the kingdom's soldiers as they tried to stop her rampage. Chardonnay, who joined the army after graduating from Will-o'-Wisp, was one of the soldiers stationed in Garbanzo, and he too was killed by Vanilla. The battle ended when Biscotti and Miss Madeleine intervened, fighting Vanilla head-on and using their magic to seal her away in Chiboust Castle. Before Chardonnay passed away, he asked for his bones to be buried in a place near Chiboust Castle, so that his spirit could stay near Vanilla.

Magical Vacation[edit | edit source]

Throughout the game, Ganache's encounters with enigmas allowed him to learn what happened to Vanilla three years ago. This helped him devise a plan, wherein he would fuse with the former enigma king Kerendu and kill the guards surrounding Chiboust Castle. He frequently reflected on his time spent with Vanilla before her departure, communicating his anger with Olive and Candy, the latter of whom eventually fused with an enigma herself. Before Ganache could fuse with Kerendu in Drazzig Grotto, Candy announced a premonition of her accompanying him to Chiboust Castle and freeing Vanilla. Ganache's classmates were able to kill Kerendu, though Ganache's contact with the enigma king forced him to relinquish all of his magic. Ganache, however, discovered he had attained a higher state of consciousness, and that his soul could freely travel the universe.

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

Upon Ganache's return to the Material Realm, rumors spread amongst enigma-possessed magicians that he had become Kerendu's vessel. Over the course of one year, he allied with the enigma-possessed and founded the Biscotti Sect, who ultimately seized control of Kovomaka Kingdom. Ganache then embarked on a journey to Chiboust Castle, to which Vanilla received word of his arrival and prepared to fight. However, her brother came to the fortress with no magic to claim, telling Vanilla he was grateful despite losing everything. Vanilla broke down into tears as she was finally freed from her restraints, joining the Biscotti Sect and abandoning magic. Thus, Kovomaka Kingdom entered an era of peace that would last for 200 years.[1]

Magical Starsign[edit | edit source]

Vanilla was briefly mentioned in Magical Starsign by a boy named Diecast in Chocomilk Caves, claiming that she and Ganache, among a few others, were wizards of Kovomaka who earned it the title of "the magic planet".[2][3]

Knights of the Universe[edit | edit source]

Vanilla's brigade at the crash site.

In this continuity, Vanilla became the chief of the White Hawks Magic Knights, a brigade of magicians in service of Kovomaka Kingdom. She was ordered by King Geasshigaou Oden to join the kingdom's Elite Magic Knights in their investigation of The "Sheep", a meteorite that had crash landed in Eldile Plains the night before. The "Sheep" awoke and supposedly annihilated the White Hawks, which was reported to King Oden and Khao Yam shortly after.[4]
