Potfolk,[a] also known as potkin,[b] are a race of sentient jars in the Magical Vacation series that help the party in many ways. They can be found all over the universe, and live in settlements such as Paella on Razen, and Gazpacho Village in the Abyssal Realm.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Potfolk are born every 200 years during the Starfall Festival, wherein Celadon crafts earthenware vessels that come to life with Elder Kettle's prayer. They move around by levitating and wobbling from side-to-side.[1][2]

HP Pot[edit | edit source]

HP Pots[c] are round green jars with blue eyes, red cheeks, and a yellow stripe. They gather rainwater, which can be consumed to restore hit points. In Magical Vacation, Pistachio's special power allows him to find three gummy frogs inside HP Pots, the colors of which are determined by the player's report card grade. In Magical Starsign, Lassi makes sugarstars appear around HP Pots when using her wild magic, and Kir sometimes finds blue frogs inside them.

MP Pot[edit | edit source]

MP Pots[d] are slim and brown, producing oil that replenishes magic points at the cost of one green frog. Kirsche retrieves two yellow worms when drinking from MP Pots.

Terracotta Pot[edit | edit source]

Terracotta Pots, known in Japan as Kiyakota Pots,[e] guard the corridors of the Pyramid. They disappear when fed gummy frogs in a specific order.

Clay Pot[edit | edit source]

Clay Pots, known in Japan as Kiyameruka Pots,[f] patrol Arko. If the party approaches a Clay Pot while wearing the light veil, one member will be warped back to the magic bus. Once every star in a section of Arko ascends, so will the Clay Pots.

Earthenware Pot[edit | edit source]

Earthenware Pots, known in Japan as Kiyakisu Pots,[g] inhabit Drazzig Grotto. They take certain items in exchange for abyssal stones, which are needed to enter the furthest room.

Porcelain Pot[edit | edit source]

Porcelain Pots, known in Japan as Kiyashikaua Pots,[h] block pathways throughout Garam Masala. To remove them, gummy frogs of any type must be inserted, but the discarded frog(s) will affect other Porcelain Pots' demands.

Bomber Pot[edit | edit source]

Bomber Pots[i] look like HP Pots, but block paths and are removed by offering a green frog. They appear in Iko Domnag, Toptoh Mines, and Drazzig Grotto. Alternatively, Candy can wish Bomber Pots out of existence using her mind dilation power.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Terracotta, Clay, Earthenware, and Porcelain Pots' names are original to the English fan translation of Magical Vacation. Their Japanese names have food-based origins, which are listed below in the aforementioned order.
    • Kiyakota comes from 蛸焼 'takoyaki, grilled ball-shaped batter filled with octopus chunks.
    • Kiyameruka comes from カルメ焼 'karumeyaki', toffee made from baked caramel.
    • Kiyakisu comes from 鋤焼 'sukiyaki', a hot pot-style dish prepared with meat and vegetables.
    • Kiyashikaua comes from 明石焼 'akashiyaki', octopus-filled dumplings.
