Potfolk, also known as pot kin, are a species in the Magical Vacation series. They are found across the universe and interact with the party in many ways, mainly inhabiting Gazpacho Village in the Abyssal Realm and Paella on Razen.

Profile

Potfolk come in three types: HP Pot (HP回復のツボ Kaifuku no Tsubo, HP Recovery Pot), MP Pot (MP回復のツボ MP Kaifuku no Tsubo, MP Recovery Pot), and Dubious Pot (あやしいツボ Ayashī Tsubo, Dubious Pot).

HP Pots are round in shape with green bodies, a yellow stripe along their face, and beady blue eyes. They collect rainwater that can be consumed to restore hit points. Bomber Pots (はじけるのツボ Hajikeru no Tsubo, Burst Pot) are potfolk sculpted by brownies that look similar to HP Pots, but serve to block pathways.

MP Pots are slim and brown, producing oil that replenishes magic points.

Dubious Pots are bulbous and red with blue triangular patterning, possessing evil glares, teeth, and tongues. They come in three subtypes, those being Terracotta Pots (キヤコタのツボ Kiyakota no Tsubo, Kiyakota Pot), Clay Pots (キヤメルカのツボ Kiyameruka no Tsubo, Kiyameruka Pot), Earthenware Pots (キヤキスのツボ Kiyakisu no Tsubo, Kiyakisu Pot), and Porcelain Pots (キヤシカゥアのツボ Kiyashikaua no Tsubo, Kiyashikaua Pot).

As for their culture, potfolk are born every 200 years during the Starfall Festival, an event on Razen in which Terra Cotta sculpts vessels that come to life with Elder Kettle's prayer. Potfolk seem to be fascinated by the oddities of reality, seeing themselves as windows into the entire universe, and are quick to voice their opinions in a straightforward and sometimes blunt manner. Due to being made of earth, they fear the possibility of shattering.

The names of potfolk come from various types of pots, jars, bottles, and pottery ware.

Nomenclature

The names of the Dubious Pots are original to the English fan translation of Magical Vacation. Their Japanese names have food-based origins:

  • Kiyakota comes from 蛸焼 takoyaki, grilled ball-shaped batter filled with octopus chunks.
  • Kiyameruka comes from カルメ焼 karumeyaki, toffee made from baked caramel.
  • Kiyakisu comes from 鋤焼 sukiyaki, a hot pot-style dish prepared with meat and vegetables.
  • Kiyashikaua comes from 明石焼 akashiyaki, octopus-filled dumplings.
