Sparrows, also known as rice birds, are a species in the Magical Vacation series. They inhabit various planes in the universe, as well as Carbonara Jungle on Gren.
Profile
Based off of the real life Java rice bird, sparrows are passerine birds whose appearance is determined by the plane they come from. Sparrows from the Material Plane and Light Plane have white feathers, while those from the Dark Plane and Death Plane have black and gray feathers. Most are cursed to speak in tweets and chirps, though some can speak the common language. Black-feathered sparrows often stay grounded to one spot, and refuse to move unless they are whistled to in a certain way. On Gren, white-feathered sparrows reside near the fourth bridge of Clam River in Carbonara Jungle. Sparrows enjoy simple things like sleeping and bathing.

Since they're white like rice grains, they're also known as rice birds. They love bathing. The original species is sakura java sparrows, which come in three colors: black, white, and gray. |

Trivia
- On the Valencia Beach campgrounds map in Magical Vacation, there is a logo in the bottom left corner that reads "Risebird Village & Spa", incorrectly Anglicizing the word rice bird. This is likely due to the Japanese cognate of rice bird being ライスバード raisubādo, as seen on the signboard near the cabins.
- The Java Sparrow Father (文鳥のオヤジ) and Java Sparrow Wife (文鳥のカミさん) who run the Java Sparrow Plains are the only sparrows in the series who speak the common language.
