Fire otter
The fire otter is a concept in Magical Starsign. He is a figure of legend among the otters of Port Pescato on Cassia.
Biography
Long ago, the Dragon God who dwelled on Cassia caused undersea volcanoes to erupt, spewing smoke that clouded the skies and turned Cassia frozen solid. Suffering in the cold, the otters of Port Pescato only had small fires to keep themselves warm, until it was no longer enough and they began to die off. However, one otter miraculously cast a flame from his hands, which burned for many days on an ordinary cup of water. This allowed the remaining townspeople to survive the ice age, and the otter who awakened to the magic of flame was named the fire otter.[1]
After the ice age, the fire otter realized the cup of water he set on fire did not freeze or boil, no matter the change in temperature. He named this substance aquarino, the ultimate state of water. Given the unique properties of aquarino, the fire otter worried that by mixing it with regular ocean water, it would no longer evaporate, meaning rain and snow would cease to fall. Such misuse had the potential to destroy Cassia's ecosphere, so the aquarino was sealed in Nata de Coco Door.
Some time later, while the fire otter's brother was fishing at sea, the Dragon God bit onto his catch and dragged him to his demise. Enraged, the fire otter challenged the Dragon God to a battle that lasted three days and three nights, which he narrowly managed to win. Upon returning to Port Pescato, the fire otter built a small grave for his brother and constructed Great Dragon Road, a shrine dedicated to the Dragon God.
Trivia
- In Japanese, the fire otter is stated to use flame magic (炎の魔法 honō no mahō). This appears to be different from fire magic (火の魔法 hi no mahō), since they are denoted by different Kanji.
