New Year rundown

January update! A ton of progress has been made since September. Plus, the image gallery is packed with archived images. I've also been implementing new modules that will make data-focused pages a lot easier to create. This project has spanned 5 months so far, and for the most part, it's still been a solo undertaking. I hope some new editors (preferably those who are more adept in wikitext than me ) join the project and polish the progress I've made so far. Is it wishful thinking at this point? Your guess is as good as mine.

My goals for 2025 are to finish the wiki's visual overhaul, and translate the rest of Magical Vacation's script. In the case of the latter, I'm probably 75-80% of the way there? Maybe? In any case, I'm going to make sure both projects are as perfect as they can be! wind˚₊‧꒰ა ≠◡= ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ (talk) 19:58, 9 January 2025 (UTC)

Using fan-translated nomenclature in pages

I've been on the fence about this for a while, and that has to do with how this wiki handles nomenclature according to magicalpatcher's translation patch of Magical Vacation. Of course, it is the only way to play MV in English at the moment, but there are so many weird name changes, translation errors, and other inconsistencies that make it borderline fanfiction. And in my opinion, it ultimately takes away from Brownie Brown's original creative vision. On the wiki side of things, it leads to unnecessary page splits and handfuls of footnotes saying "In the English fan translation, this was incorrectly translated as so-and-so". I hate putting magicalpatcher on blast like that, but without those footnotes, people will be, and have been, misled.

I already merged a number of pages that share a Japanese name in MV and MS, namely items, magic, and enemies, using MS's localization as the de facto pagename while the erroneous MV fanslation name are relegated to the infobox, see afterburner. But then there are things like changing every spirit's name (you can only joke about Edgy and Furry so many times), renaming key characters and locations, and everything else mentioned previously. It also makes things extra difficult when trying to write magicalpatcher's imprecise translations into canon, and treating them as canon, especially for histories of characters and locations that appear in both games. Plus, the MVTranslate template has a romhacking.net link that, very possibly, encourages emulation and the illegal distribution of game carts injected with the fan translation ROM, which seems a little irresponsible on our end.

With all of this in mind, I propose that MV-adjacent pages use the original terminology, while any changes made by magicalpatcher are left in the infobox and nomenclature templates. Of course, redirects can still be used to lead readers to the right pages. I'll leave this to a community vote, so feel free to pitch in with your thoughts. wind˚₊‧꒰ა ≠◡= ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ (talk) 08:35, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

I agree with these changes and intended to make some of them myself initially when the page splits became a problem. The MVTranslate template was always a stop-gap for something better and it is, beyond anything it encourages off the wiki, just kind of an ugly solution to begin with. Redirects and perhaps disambiguations can suffice to address any navigation issues that might be created as a result of these changes. Rman41 (talk) 08:43, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
Guess that settles it. Time to move some pages >:] wind˚₊‧꒰ა ≠◡= ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ (talk) 14:18, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

Cross-Wiki Week

Hello, prospective editors! If you're here for CWW and looking for things to do, we have plenty of content that needs to be polished. Some examples include:

  • Creating Magical Vacation enemy pages: We're a little short on MV enemy content at the moment and would love to see more. As you can see above, we very recently decided to forgo using fan-translated nomenclature for pagenames, so please keep that in mind!
  • Updating pages that have old templates: Basically, taking outdated pages like this and turning them into this. Less clutter, more style B]
  • Modules: As part of the wiki's latest overhaul phase, we plan to implement modules that will make data easier to summon, especially skill lists for party member and enemy stat table templates. Something like this but MagiVaca-fied, if you catch my drift. If you know how to design modules, this is the right job for you.

If you have any questions about formatting, canon, nomenclature, or anything, feel free to ask us on our talk pages. Have fun! wind˚₊‧꒰ა ≠◡= ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ (talk) 22:53, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
