Oturan Village was founded in ancient times by a civilization of puppets. At some point, they constructed the Wetsomus Ruins and raised them into the sky. Descendants of the ancient puppets continued to uphold the town's archaic traditions, such as beliefs in divine causality, public execution of criminals, and caring little for each other's morality.

200 years ago, a puppet named Tiramisu and his brother Mousse were out exploring, but Mousse suddenly fell off a cliff. The accident fractured Mousse's heart and made him immobile, so Tiramisu quickly brought him back to Oturan and begged for help. The townspeople blamed Mousse for being clumsy, proclaiming their kin were fated to perish eventually, and Tiramisu's brother died in his arms. Tiramisu would ultimately become a serial puppet-killer, murdering random townspeople in order to exact revenge, and to find a replacement heart for Mousse.
