After the party defeats Pucine the 3rd at the back gates of Cold Honey Palace, they become curious of where Miss Madeleine had ended up following the mass abduction at Valencia Beach. It turns out that instead of being sent to the Light Realm like the kids, Madeleine was taken to the Dark Realm, finding herself in a forest full of pookas. She demands to know where her pupils have been taken to, then asks them of Kerendu's whereabouts as she is intent on meeting with him. The pookas are shocked to learn that a human knows of Kerendu's existence, then Equillekrew enters the scene, calling Kerendu a mere insect and proclaims his recent death. Madeleine then asks Equillekrew if he is the one who sent everyone to this world, but the enigma corrects her, saying only she was brought to the Dark Realm. One pooka reveals that their plan is to claim the magic of the Antique Age, as well as powerful dwarven technology from Iko Domnag.
Slightly disturbed, Madeleine questions if any of them are underlings of Kerendu, to which Equillekrew states all weak enigmas were killed for reincarnation, losing their memories and gradually become one singular body. He goes on to announce his desires of taking Kerendu's throne, but Madeleine taunts him by saying he cannot become that powerful without a fusion host, nor would he be able to defeat her pupils. Before the enigmas can call her bluff, Madeleine bids them farewell and teleports away via warp magic, causing Equillekrew to become enraged. He commands the pookas to cease their plans in the Light Realm, and instead drag the students to the Dark Realm, dead or alive.[1]
