Around 12800 years before the events of Magical Starsign, Craaken and the other yogart gurus of Erd were met by the Espresso civilization, a group of humans hailing from Puffoon. Their lead technician, Dr. Calzone, was curious of the planet Nova, which was said to reside within the sun. However, the sun's atmosphere was made up of searing hot plasma-based gummies, concealing Nova in its own dimensional plane. He had learned that yogart gurus possessed the power to send their astral bodies into the sun, and wondered if Craaken and the others had a sort of gate, though this was not the case. Calzone instead joined forces with Craaken, helping each other in the construction of the Kahve plant where robots capable of bending space were manufactured. Unfortunately for the Espressos, who ignored several warnings from the resident brownies and other natives of Erd, they were persecuted by Erd's natives and gummified by their robots. Craaken managed to escape the conflict and retreat to Cassia, where he established Ambergris Preparatory School and published copies of the Book of the Darned. However, Craaken eventually faced persecution and had all but one copy of his grimoire burned. At the time of his death, his soul was likely transmogrified into the water millennium gummy, which Cassia's water people relocated to the Holy Water Pyramid.[1]
Trivia
- He shares the Japanese name Kota with a Terracotta Pot in Magical Vacation, whose name was changed to Supotco in the English fan translation.

His name comes from kraken, gigantic sea monsters originating in Norwegian mythos. This is also likely in reference to H.P. Lovecraft's cosmic kraken-like beings such as Cthylla, with the Book of the Darned being based off Lovecraft's Necronomicon.
