Brown is a party member in Magical Vacation. He is a member of the brownie clan who uses the light spirit.

Profile

Brown is silent and expressionless, often mumbling incoherent nonsense to himself and frequently dozing off. However, he is incredibly wise, and is obsessed with spirits.

Like all brownies, Brown wears a curly straw wizard hat, tattered grey robes, and big brown loafers. Most of his face and torso is covered by his thick brown beard and bushy eyebrows.

Gameplay

Brown is a hidden party member who can join at Despair Swamp in the Abyssal Realm, starting at level 300 and light magic level 99, but only if the player owns at least 30 abyssal stones and has befriended all 112 spirits. Due to a glitch, it is possible to recruit Brown without having to befriend every spirit, as long as 30 abyssal stones have been obtained. He comes with the brownie set, the most powerful equipment set in the game.

Brown uses the light spirit, which is only strong against the dark spirit and has no weaknesses. His magic covers several ranges with incredible damage, and can blind enemies to reduce their physical accuracy. As for stats, Brown has high and balanced stat growth, with above-average increases in hit points and magic points.

Other appearances

Sword of Mana

Brown made a brief appearance in the Subland River area of Sword of Mana, named Mr. Brown in the game's English localization. When talked to, he introduced himself as the leader of the brownie clan, and rambled about nearby locations such as Loose Angles, Loon Beach, and the last paradise of Coolva City. He then offered to give Sumo/Fuji either Duelle Jam, Sotherbee Citrus, or a Brownie Ring.

Trivia

  • When using Brown in Let's Battle, his name incorrectly appears as "Brownie" (ブラウニー Buraunī) on the opposing player's screen.
  • In the Japanese version of Sword of Mana, the locations that Brown lists are comical corruptions of Tokyo districts. These are Seebuya (シーブヤ), Shinjukeh (シンジュケー), and Kichohji (キチョージ), named after Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Kichijōji respectively. He refers to Kichohji as the "last paradise", since Brownie Brown/1-Up Studio's office was located in Kichijōji.[1]
    • Duelle Jam (ドゥエルのメンチ Dueru no Menchi, Duelle's Mincemeat) and Sotherbee Citrus (サザビーのヨーカン Sazabī no Yōkan, Sotherbee's Bean Jelly) are references to the characters Duelle and Sotherbee from Legend of Mana, while the Brownie Ring (ブラウニーピアス Buraunī Piasu, Brownie Piercings) is a returning item from Magical Vacation.
  • In the files of Magical Starsign, there exist battle sprites of Brown, suggesting he was going to be a hidden party member like in Magical Vacation.
