'''Pescato''' is the only town on the west half of [[Cassia]], in addition to being a major settlement of the [[Otters]]. There is a shop and an inn where the player can buy items and rest up. Additonally, there is an NPC who tells town history and folklore named Gene.

To the west is the entrance to [[Nata De Coco]], and to the east is a dock where the player can head to [[The Ambergis Preparatory School|Ambergis Prep]] later on in the game. There is also an NPC who can make a Pooka String from 50 rainbow shells, and a traveling putty by the pier.

=== Arrival in Pescato ===
Shortly after discovering the body of their classmate [[Mokka]], the duo of [[Lassi]] and the player head to Pescato to see what's going on in town. They're introduced to [[Detective Beignet|Detective Beignet,]] and discover that the town has been plagued by quite a few different issues, mainly that a lot of personal belongings of the otters have gone missing and that it's very very cold. The player can talk to several of the townsfolk seen outside, and they quickly discover that a lot of people are blaming a creature called the [[Hermit lab]] for all the town's woes.

After exploring for a bit, one of the townsfolk, an otter named Mick, gets upset that the detective is being incompetent and runs back home. The player can follow Mick back home, and doing so will lead to Lassi and the player making a very awful discovery - Mick has Mokka's head and is using it to power his furnace! Naturally, the duo tries to take the battery back, but can't since Mick needs it to stay warm. However, after some debating, he finally gives them a deal - Defeat the Hermit lab, get back his [[Key Items|toolbox key]], and he'll hand over Mokka's head.

Eventually, the player does so and brings back the toolbox key to Mick as well as some other stolen goods. True to his word, Mick gives them the battery back and they bring it to Mokka's body, successfully reanimating him.

=== The Dwarves and the Fire Otter ===
After reviving Mokka, Lassi suggests they ask the [[dwarves]] for assistance upgrading their rocket. They are met by [[Caldarroste]] outside the village, who informs them about the pirates' malicious intent and their freezing machine. He encourages them to go out to their hideout at the [[Great Dragon Road|Dragon God Cave]].

If the player chooses to go talk to the dwarf in Pescato, they discover that the dwarves need a mystic mouse to upgrade the rocket.

The player can also talk to the town lorekeeper, Gene, about why the dwarves ended up there in the first place. According to Gene, the Dwarves were originally from [[Razen]] and often went in and out of Cassia to ship goods. However, one day Razen's orbit of Nova changed, and the planet became much hotter and they were unable to return. The dwarves eventually learned of a magical item called the [[aquarino]], and decided to try using it to upgrade their ship to handle the hot temperatures. It worked, but upon returning to Razen, they were banished because they practiced dwarven engineering outside of the planet.

The player can also ask Gene about two other topics, the Fire Otter and the aquarino. The tale of the Fire Otter is available by default, but the player has to make a trip to [[Nata De Coco]] to learn more about the aquarino.

As Gene tells it, the Fire Otter is a legend in Pescato. It's said that during the original ice age on Cassia, the otters were slowly dying off due to the lack of warmth, as all they had were campfires. Eventually, one day an otter learned fire magic and shot fire into a cup of water, which burned long enough to last them through the ice age. Some people believe that the otter will one day return to save the people once again, and hold out hope that their new ice age will be ended by him.

When asked about the aquarino, Gene clarifies that it's the same cup of water that the fire otter lit ablaze all that time

ago. The water never froze nor evaporated regardless of the conditions, but it was also dangerous because whenever mixed with other water, it'll gain the aquarino's properties. That's why the aquarino is stored in Nata De Coco -- so it can remain safe no matter what.

=== The Long John Brothers ===
Whenever the player decides to storm the pirate hideout, they'll be stopped by an otter named Malcom. Malcom seems relieved that they're going to finally take care of the pirates, but he wants them to stop by their house first. Upon doing so, they meet Malcom's brother, Angus -- the owner of the Hermit lab. He seems a bit frustrated that the player beat up their pet, but is happy to aid them in their journey. He gives them a pair of [[Long Johns]], and sends them on their way to meet back up with Malcom, who escorts them to the Dragon God Cave.

=== Thawing the Planet ===
After thawing Cassia out and successfully defeating the pirates, the player and company return to Pescato after being discovered wiped out on the beach by Beignet. There, they are thanked by the villagers and informed by Beignet that wizards are being kidnapped by the pirates, and he didn't know when to act. Lassi suspects that [[Madeleine]] was also taken by the pirates, and Beignet suggests that they go to [[Puffoon]] to contact the [[Space Police]] at their [[Space Police HQ|HQ]]. He assures them that they'll send a troop to [[Gren]] to free the wizards. Lassi seems interested in this tidbit of information which becomes useful later.

The player can also talk to an NPC to receive a choice between a pair of Holey Socks and an Old Sweater. Both items are relatively useless, but it's the thought that counts.

The player can find one of the dwarves back in town, and when talking to him, he offers to upgrade the ship. After the upgrade, the player departs Cassia for the time being.

== Plot ==

=== Welcome to Peatmoss ===
After escaping the [[Gumbo Gaol|robot prison]], [[Lassi]] and the player discovers a massive hole in the ground. They decide to jump in, and find some Spiny Moles. They are greeted by Fontina at a ladder leading further into the hole. Fontina asks them about their escape from the prison, and Lassi tells them about the experience. Then, she asks them where exactly they are. Fontina explains that they're at Peatmoss, the Spiny Mole kingdom. Fontina also mentions that there's a legend in their kingdom where two heroes will descend from the heavens and deliver them to a "worm-filled paradise". They are directed to go speak to the king for more information, so they do exactly that.

=== A Prophecy ===
They enter the throne room and meet [[King Gorgonzola]] and his assistant, [[Minister Munster]]. The king greets them, and

expresses great interest in their magical capabilities. He asks the Minister if perhaps the strange duo are the heroes foretold in their culture's legends and prophecies, and the Minister wholeheartedly agrees. When asked, the minister goes on to explain that their legends speak of a period known as the "doomy times", where heroes from another planet will come to save them. The kingdom believes that right now they are in this time period, as almost all of the [[Gummy Worms|gummy worms]] they can reach have been eaten, and they're slowly running out of food. Lassi expresses frustration and confusion from this revelation, claiming they're just on Erd by accident, but the Minister dismisses it as humility. The king also dismisses Lassi's pessimism, and asks the Minister to fetch the prophecy books.

There are two books, the Book of Darkness and the Book of Light. Which book is read from first depends on which element you chose at the beginning of the game.

The Minister begins to read the prophecy books, and the reading goes as follows;<blockquote>"In the doomy times, saviors will appear from a far-off planet and end the reign of the [[Ant queen|ant queen]] with the power of magic."</blockquote>Lassi asks about the ant queen, and Gorgonzola says that she is the scourge of their people. He requests that the duo finally put an end to their reign, which the player eventually accepts. Lassi is not amused, but they have no choice. Gorgonzola also mentions that the book they read from also foretells that the heroes of their story will deliver the moles to a "wormy paradise", go on to do greater things, and that the spiny moles will be at their side when the time to defeat the most villainous evil comes. The King shows them to a passage to the [[Ant Hole]], and sends them on their way.

=== The End of the Queen ===
After defeating the Ant queen, Lassi and the player come across a chest she left behind that contains a tool known as the [[Key Items|diggy claws]]. Lassi remarks that the glove looks nasty, but they bring it back to the king anyway. When they return to Peatmoss, all the villagers seem elated to know that the Queen has finally been put down, and so does the king when they speak with him.

The king declares the player and Lassi heroes, and gives them their greatest thanks. He then asks them if they perhaps found anything on the Queen's person. Lassi presents the diggy claws, and the king seems excited to know that they have found what is apparently a legendary tool. Despite it only being useful in the hands of a Spiny Mole, the king urges them to keep it. Lassi declines and just tells the king he should take it, which prompts the king to reach the revelation that the duo are also the heroes foretold in the other prophecy book.

The Minister is once again ordered to fetch the books, this time reading from the second one;<blockquote>"After forming a bond of friendship with the Spiny Moles, the heroes selflessly refuse the king's reward, caring not for their own happiness and only thinking of the well-being of the Spiny Moles. They will release the sleeping planets from their curse and then will depart for new horizons aboard a [[Neumann the Magical Rocket|ship of light]]. All dreams of all men shall come true at that moment."</blockquote>The king offers the heroes assistance in getting to Puffoon, and the Minister informs them that there is a rocket that

lies dormant in [[Kahve Ruins]]. In order to use it, the duo needs to find and wake the "star buried in the land where the stars sleep". The king then proclaims they head to the digging grounds once more, where he plans to dig them a hole to the [[Land Where the Stars Sleep]].

When they arrive at the digging grounds, he orders Blarney to stand aside and let the heroes help themselves to some treasures they have found while digging. He then begins his digging journey using the diggy claws, finishing the job in practically no time as the claws have helped him dig through solid rock with ease.

The player can then depart Peatmoss. The king, the Minister, and several mole NPCs await them at the exit, and give them a teary goodbye. The king mentions that they can return to Peatmoss at any time if they feel lost, and sends them on their way.

The library in the kingdom has many readable books, which talk about basic game mechanics and the lore of the spiny moles.

One day, a storm ravaged the village. The villagers took refuge in the hole that the spineless mole had so carefully dug. The storm began to destroy the hole, so the villagers went deeper and deeper. And at the bottom of the hole, the villagers found the spineless mole curled up and not at all happy. 
 
"Why won't you leave me alone?" the spineless mole pleaded. "Don't look at me! Just go away!" 
 
But all the villagers said, "Thanks to you, we are all safe from the storm! Come outside and be one of us!" 
 
And the spineless mole left the hole and lived happily ever after.

Chai is sensitive, but has a high mental capacity regarding stress. He is often first to project his feelings about a subject, and is very expressive. Even with these traits, it is said that Chai is very timid and quiet most of the time. Though he is often ostracized by his own kind for his magic powers, he is very open towards the subject. Pico also describes him as "such a chill little salamander" at one point in the game. When changing his name, Chai is described as shy and kind, as well as highly unusual for his kind. In the Japanese version, he has a habit of ending sentences with ノ ''no''.<ref name="MS"/>

===Appearance===
Chai is a green salamander. On his head, he has yellow lightning-bolt shaped markings that trail down to his face, blue eyes, and red hair that appears in tufts on his cheeks and in a fluffy ponytail atop his head. He wears golden rings on his neck that match the golden hair tie on his head. The only garments he wears are blue boots with white and red geometric accents, and a golden belt with red jewels. On the belt are also white strips of cloth that appear to have been sewn on, and have blue and red arrows embroidered onto them.<ref name="MS"/>

==Biography==
===Early life===
Chai was born as the only son of a salamander family who lived near the academy. Like all salamanders, his parents could not use magic, but they soon learned that Chai was a rare exception. His ability to cast magic made him an outcast amongst other salamanders.

Chai and his five [[Party (Magical Starsign)|classmates]] learned of Miss [[Madeleine]]'s orders to fly to [[Puffoon]], wherein she would face a rogue magician named [[Kale]]. Madeleine later took them to the academy's Meditation Room, and Chai assisted the [[Protagonist (Magical Starsign)|protagonist]] in learning the basics of rows in [[Combat in Magical Starsign|combat]]. Once the lesson was over, Chai eagerly asked Madeleine if the students would be going to space as well, to which she said "no", but admitted to having an odd foreshadowy feeling.

It was not until three months later when the students grew concerned, as Madeleine had not been in contact with anyone on [[Kovomaka]] following her voyage to Puffoon. When [[Lassi]] suddenly went missing, their curiosity led them up the academy's clocktower and into a hangar crowded with rockets. One of these rockets was being operated by Lassi, who carelessly activated it and blasted off into space. The protagonist boarded one as well in an attempt to chase after Lassi, resulting in the two of them crash landing on [[Erd]].

After the protagonist and Lassi escaped from Erd, and subsequently reunited with [[Mokka]] on [[Cassia]], they were given the option of either flying to Puffoon or [[Gren]]. Upon landing on Puffoon, they berthed their [[Neumann|magic rocket]] in the planet's spaceport, and to their surprise, a Will-o'-Wisp rocket was parked there too. They entered the city of [[Bena Rikashi]] to file a Missing Persons report to the [[Space Police]], believing it would bring them one step closer to saving Madeleine. However, they passed by each desk in the Space Police HQ to no avail, that is until they reached the top floor where the chief's office was located. They addressed Kale and his [[astro pirates]] with the stand-in chief, [[Mugwort]], but he condescendingly turned down their pleas.

With the Space Police no longer being of use to the students, they left the HQ building and bumped into a [[felin]] named [[Parfait]], who correctly assumed that they attended Will-o'-Wisp. She invited them over to "her house" on the city's outskirts, where she asked them to help her find a special book. This book turned out to be the [[Book of the Darned]]; a grimoire that supposedly cursed and killed anyone who read its contents. Parfait hastily took the book and alluded to her possible familiarity of Madeleine and Kale, but when the students tried to follow her, they were instead confronted by a Space Police officer. It turned out Parfait had duped them, and "her house" was actually Kale's laboratory. Suddenly, the officer received a call about a salamander escaping custody, which he urgently responded to. Down the street was none other than Chai, who anxiously warned his friends that the Space Police were pursuing them. Before he could say anything else, two officers chased him out of the city and into [[Quinoa Plain]]. The students left the city as well and encountered [[Brioche]] the [[rabbit]]. Brioche invited them to meet up with Chai in the village of [[Honey Mint]], revealing that he had run off with secret police documents.

The students finally reunited in Honey Mint with Brioche, who was accompanied by his father [[Cresson]]. Lassi took a peek at the documents that Chai stole, which was actually a list of magicians kidnapped by the Astro Pirates. They read further down to see Madeleine's name, with the arresting officer being cited as the Space Police's fighting instructor, [[Biek Fowler]]. Brioche suggested the students ask [[Twigadamus]] the local clairvoyant for help, but before they could do so, Mugwort flew in alongside [[Brie Pourri]], the true Space Police chief. Pourri ordered Mugwort to deal with the students as she flew back to the HQ building with Chai in her grasp.

The Will-o'-Wisp group, sans Chai, won against Mugwort, only to be scolded for assaulting an officer. In a last-minute effort to get Mugwort off their backs, Cresson offered Brioche's piggy bank containing two million [[bira]] as compensation. The bribe surprisingly worked, to the dismay of Brioche, and the stand-in police chief sailed back to Bena Rikashi. As Brioche sobbed at the loss of his hard-earned money, he was consulted by Twigadamus, who arrived to tell him that his dreams were destined to come true. The students talked to Twigadamus, who seemed familiar with Madeleine, and let them gaze into the magic crystal at his house. Presented to them was a brief vision of the Space Police HQ, a floating island off the edge of Quinoa Plain, and a treasure chest near [[brownie]] outside the village.

After sending down a chest from the floating island, and subsequently talking to the aforementioned brownie, the party obtained a special item called the [[tempus forget]], a clock which had the power to manipulate peoples' consciousness. The students returned to Bena Rikashi and unleashed the tempus forget in the Space Police HQ, making every trooper temporarily braindead and allowing safe access to Brie Pourri's reception desk. Next to her was a treasure box containing Chai, and upon his release, he proposed a theory regarding the Space Police and Astro Pirates. He alleged that someone was gathering magicians from Gren and sending them off to [[Razen]], meaning Madeleine was likely on Gren in some sort of pirate hideout. Chai seemed discouraged when he admitted to not having a functional rocket, but luckily for him, the other students brought him to Neumann, and he joined the party.

====Return to Kovomaka====
When he returned to Kovomaka, Chai studied further in the hopes of improving his skill in magic. However, he grew bored with studying roughly a decade later, and chose to sneak into a storage locker near the fuel tank in [[Mokka]], who had been converted to a rocket by Lassi, prior to his launch into deep space.<ref name="MS"/>

Dying on the Plane of Death means absolute annihilation. However, if a person's will fully embraces it, there is no perfect disappearance. They will be reborn on some other plane. By then, they are different from their previous form, and their consciousness adopts a new state. So in a sense, you do sort of become "nothing".

You mean the zipper bug? Zipper bugs are parasitic, latching onto the back and extended their appendages along the dorsum. Eventually the entire zipper bug becomes a zipper, and the skin can detach and reattach. This is a parasite that can also affect humans, so be careful.

You can graduate at any time if you pass the graduation exam. The graduation exam consists of a written report and a practical examination. It's possible to graduate just by doing the report and examination.

His hair is silver in color and reaches down to his ankles, and his eyes are mauve purple. For clothes, he wears a sleeveless violet jumpsuit with three red pockets on either leg, and red leg openings. Over the jumpsuit is a red vest with silver buckles, and a small pouch is slung over his shoulder. His arms are cloaked with red lantern sleeves detached from his vest, as well as gold armlets below his shoulders. Cassis's choice of footwear is a pair of brown boots.<ref name="MV"/>

Because his father once had power among the recluses of society, Cassis was born with connections to the underground. When Cassis was young, his father died under mysterious circumstances and the cause was kept secret from him. Cassis would often get into fights around [[Castle Town]], but after playing with a group of impoverished children, he realized that it was futile to live in misery, and decided to be more appreciative of life. The boss of the underground organization, who was indebted to Cassis's father, stepped in as his new paternal figure and raised him to be self-sufficient. Through these teachings, Cassis learned how to grow potatoes and make dinner for his mother, who often came home late from working overtime.
